  1. Beautiful shot! I've read about this elusive Ptarmigan. I know how difficult it is to find, let alone photograph. I love how it stands out from the background in the overall blue cast. Nicely Done!!

The fact that you can see a problem here at your young age is to your credit.

Just remember, there are something like 100,000 members at Photo.net. Only a frustrated few feel the need to pound away at their computers trying to prove how smart they are and that their opinions matter. Most come to learn, share, view others images, etc., pretty much the same reasons you do. Most of them I would guess have interesting lives. I'm sure you will too. If you ask detailed questions I think you'll find many people eager to help. Have fun.

    Food for thought:

and with a breath of kindness,

    blow the rest away"

I'd be embarrassed to respond to this dribble if I was Seven.

Some of you people ought to get counselling. Right Away! I haven't witnessed such a collection of know-it-all, bull-shit artists since I gave up sitting on bar stools years ago. Some of you people just go on and on expounding nonsense. "Your stupid, No Your Stupid." Get a grip! This isn't fostering discussion. This is just bull-shit! Plain and simple. Offer you opinion of the photo. Then leave it at that. For Christ Sakes.

I gave it a 10! Chew on that. I think its an amazing interpretation of everyday life. It took creative vision ("But digital sucks, it's too easy"). Beauty is where you find it, folks. This POW is creative, fresh, balanced. It has beautiful detail. And it's very colorful! :) I'd love it on my wall. If you think I'm wrong, stupid, or unsophisticated, well, I'll give you one guess how much I care. Grow UP!

God, it gets so irritating. That Jerry Springer comment by Daniel above was right on! This is Nonsense! (Now I'm all upset, ........where is my Prozac :)

This one is Madison Avenue all the way. Poised, generic and commercial. Just what it was intended to be. Looks like an advertisement. Not a bad one mind you. POW has never included advertising type images before, that I remember. I agree this was a poor choice for POW. Then again, I don't get a lot of them.

I do take issue with one comment, Tony, what do you mean "silly hat"? I've got a hat just like that. I got it at flea market. It's a "Stetson" and I wear it to parties. I feel like Mike Hammer. Now I find out it's silly. "Oh, what a fool I've been!"

Interesting what you wrote in way of explaining this one.

The first thing I saw was the shape of a breast, but then, no, a pregnant belly, that's what I thought. No kidding. The composition makes it so. Nice job!!!

  2. By the way, I showed this image to my brother, a "Long time" nature photographer. He was amazed, possessing a similar HP scanner. His first reaction was - "Wow, how did he do that!"

If he can keep such an open mind, why can't the rest of us.

  3. It seems we are getting back on point. The merits of the image. We've been arguing the whole "what is a photo" with intellectual gymnastics for so long now, and the cows have all gone home folks.

And I agree with Jim Allen "constructive criticism is great, i.e. sharing helpful viewpoints, but beating up on the recent various POW's is a sure sign of frustrated "photographers."

I was one, if not the first, to slam last weeks POW. After watching the debacle that followed, I wished I'd never said it. I take it back!

Let's get back to the whole concept. Critique the photos.

    I love the image.

Bill Allen, I applaud your creativity.

I don't get it! It seems any photo from an exotic country gets about a three point handicap in the picture of the week selection. Maybe we should rename it

"Travel pictures from around the world" I don't mean to be mean spirited, but I've seen a lot of fine photos float past the gallery in the past week (mine own excluded). I very much like the portrait of the gentleman. Perhaps if it was closer in on him, without all the busyness.
