1.
Hi Colin, I' totally would have to agree with Craig on this one, the DSLR is a great world to be in also. However I can only comment on my 5D mark ll, I was also analysing the forums on the metering and auto focus system. But with my copy, I have not experienced what I had read. I will say that it is not the fastest system around. Let's just say you wouldn't use it for sports photography and in low light conditions if action was the name of the game. But if you are into landscape or portrait and studio work and just general use, it would be very hard to go past the 5D Mark ll, I have a large arsenal of L series lenses which work superbly on this body. The D800 sounds good on paper, but in the real world it has not had the age test, that would be a bit of a concern to me, it has a very big pixel jump, not to sure if you need that many, however if you do that can only be a good thing I guess. As I said Colin this is just my point of view and opinion, I definitely won't be jumping to the 5D mark lll, there would be no need. Good luck with your decision. Grant.

 2.
What kind of screen are you using, LCD, laptop, crt, I also have the spyder 3, but only had problems with my laptop, from what I've read the Spyder3Express puck is good, it's just the software
that's far too generic. If you can get your hands on basICColor Display 5,
you'll instantly see the difference and your monitor will look amazing once
calibrated (whites will be white again). You can either go legit and download
the 14-day trial from the website, or just buy it.....

(My 7D shutter/mirror zap Is a lot softer than my 5D2. But, duh, the 5D is FF and there should be more noise due to the much larger mirror and shutter curtains). That is the answer you are looking for from Puppy Face.... My 50d feels a bit like a toy next to my 5dll but still takes great photos.

 4.
I also agree with Dan. the 550d is a great body check out some photo.net images of the 550d in tag you will be quiet suprised...focs on good glass and getting some experience then look at an up grade, good luck with it....

 5.
I' don't think that this is very fear to put a F/F up against a cropped sensor, they are both great cameras in there own right, 7D vs D300s or 5D ll vs D700 is more realistic to me, but it makes for a good read, but serious if you can keep the 40D, then I would get the 5Dll and have the best of both wolds.... PS I have used all three, but now I use 50D and the 5Dll, Good luck with your decision Zvia...
