thank you all for answers, even for the spam one! :) . so i will go for a mix of neutral white expodisk and a white card. cheers !

hello! few days ago i took some pictures in mixed light sources, and no matter what settings i use the result was far from good. so, i decided that i need an expodisk. i've been looking for ideas over the internet and i'm lost. gray, white, warm... white is better than grey or viceversa ... what good is for you...and so on. could you please, help me with a suggestion ?

either way looks good. but i'm still confused, if you use a cable release like you said (unless i'm mistaken) you don't need the 10 sec delay on top of that as you aren't touching the camera at the time of shutter actuation to begin with. oh well, keep it up because it looks like you have a good technique down that will give you the tools to get the exposures that you want.

i do use a cable release but the tripod i use is not what i call a solid one. then, i usually take 1, 2 test shots and then adjust the camera to my taste; shutter, aperture, compozition, etc. doing that on the camera mounted on tripod....guess you get the point.
buttom line. this is what i have (XSI + kit lens), this is how i use it (my previous post) this is what i get. hope this will help gordon.

thanks dan ! i am well aware that the compozition of my pictures is far from perfect. that was a quick answer to the problem raised by gordon, sharpnes of his pictures. quick look to the pictures and is obvious that at least the tehnique i use is better. i use the 10 sec delay to eliminate the vibration on the tripod i use, caused by the pushing on buttons to set the camera. even without mirror lookup, his gear (30D+70-200mm f2,8 IS USm L) will weight around 2200g vs 700g (XSI+18-55mm IS) , so the slam from the mirror should have almost no impact on picture sharpness.

here are some of my pictures and some info... XSi, kit lens 18-55mm IS, tripod, cable release, IS turned off, 10 sec delay, iso 100 or 200, aperture priority, 1,5-2 fstop stoped down from wide open, a bit underexposed, autofocus. the pictures are jpg strait from the camera.

Hello there. I also own a XSI and i think it is a wonder. Here is a 100% crop from one of my pictures taken in the night, but with different setings, iso 200, f7,1 And as you can see it is virtually free from noise. So in the first
place there is your iso setings that is one problem. Second, i've just noticed that same picture viewed and edited in different programs show different results. For example this picture viewed and edited in photoshop 7 looks noisier than viewed and edited in ACDSee 7 or Digital Photo Professional. So i have to give up from this version of Photoshop. Anyway the pictures are great .Good luck.

here is a picture taken with my eos 450d with 18-55mm is, at long end. since i have no other lens in this range i cannot make a comparison, so it's up to you to decide if it worth or not.

For about three mounts im the happy owner of my first dslr ,a rebel xsi with 18-55mm and 55-250mm. And of course i recommend it for the kind of shots you take. EF 28-135mm on eos 40D is something like 49-216mm, not good at all for landsapes and architecture. the 18-55mm is an EF-S18-55mm IS so it works great on the small sensor of xsi. On the other hand xsi vs xti well... depends on your taste. on xsi I appreciate (over xti) the higher IQ... digic III, 12,2mp, 9 area AF, larger viewfinder, etc. So my sugestion go for xsi...with a small ...but. If the money is not a big issue i sugest give up for canon 18-55mm, keep 55-250mm, and go for something like Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II or a sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX DC Macro HSM, both faster, and much better optical, than canon 18-55mm, more suitable for low light conditions.
