  1. I'm starting from somewhere slightly different, but the question is the same.

I'm looking for a 'compact' that I can put in my pocket but will deliver quality. (I'm using a Nikon D2x as my main camera - so that's my quality benchmark. Unrealistic? Maybe. Maybe not).

My issue is one of shutter lag. I do action photography of railways. So when I press the shutter, I want it to fire 'now'. Not when it feels like it.

Anybody got any bright ideas of cameras I should look at?

  2. Hi

Can I correct some facts in the above? I'm in the UK, and I've my copy of Nikon Pro in front of me, also delivered today.

It quotes the ISO range as 50 to 6400, not as above. The other significant thing for me was the frame rate - 5fps at full resolution, 7fps in DX crop mode.

Sounds like a D3 killer to me...

  3. Hi

I agree with Arie on his shooting technique. Earlier this year in extreme low temperatures in China I got some sort of

frostbite on my nose from it being pressed to the back of a (very) cold Nikon. To see the full story (and various

photography cold weather tips) check out the post on my blog. It's at:
