Bob,
That's a very good point. I wonder what happened with this lens. It was shown at PMA
and ... I guess maybe Canon is keeping it to be introduced together with a mysterious
pro digital body?

Raymond,
You mentioned Katmai and you're right! - it's the best place to go. Skip Denali and go straight to Katmai. In my opinion Denali is overrated. Unless you stay there for a week and camp, you have to take a bus trip on a pretty boring road with wide open planes around you so even if you see wildlife, it's usually far away from you. Katmai is wonderful! You don't see bears, you live with them. After a couple of days they recognize you, it's kind of religious experience. It's one of the great wonders of the world. Check out my pictures and quicktime movies from this summer trip at http://205.147.9.201/andrew/

Brian,
Check out what Ron Reznick thinks about 300 F4 AFS -

He tested it on birds in flight and was very happy with the results.
80-400 VR is bacically useless. AF is way too slow.

Hi Everyone,
On my last trip to Bolsa Chica, CA I spotted a sleeping Great Blue Heron. I was carefully approaching him
and got really close. I have some great close-ups but his eyes are closed. I spent quite a while shooting
him and have a lot of takes with his eyes open, but I really like these first shots. Can someone tell me if
this is a garbage? I've never seen any shots of a Great Blue Heron's closed eyes so I wonder if it's rare or
it's considered ugly.
Thanks a lot
Andrew

Bob, your info is not up to date. Check out this report from PMA 2001 and you will SEE a 400mm DO lens.
It looks very compact and has a green ring (instead of red in "L" lenses).
