1. I bought a RTS II couples weeks ago with the 50/1.4 and 85/1.4. Really nice camera and lenses...

The body have a nice solid/robust feeling which I enjoy. But the downside is that is a bit hard to hold with just the right hand. Maybe a small grip like F3 would have been handy? But it would have not look has nice/streamlined has it is.

The red led infos really popup well in the bright and large viewfinder.

I like the knobs, push buttons and winder. I’m a mechanical engineer, I like things like that ;)

For the batteries I just bought a pack of 5 for 15$ on Amazon so price and availability don’t seem to be a problem.

Just finished my first roll. Can’t wait to see the pictures.

  2.
The 135 soft focus is a rare lens these days, I never used it but I can say that the bokeh on the 100/2 is very nice, almost as good as the 135/2 I have also owned. And the bokeh of the 100/2 is even better at f2.
Personally I don't see a reason to go with the 135 soft focus. The 100/2 is more modern, compact, have USM, larger aperture and the price is very similar to the 135 soft focus.

  3.
Thanks for the comparison.

I just received the 40mm STM from B&H today. I have to say that Im enthusiast about the size and construction. The focus ring works great for me; the lens is so short that you can adjust the focus with your forefinger while holding the camera body.

I have owned the Voigtlander 40/2 as a walk around lens. It as nice lens, the built and handling are amazing but I switched the EF 35/2 tired of out of focus shots. Now this new 40/2.8 STM seem to be the perfect walk around lens, non intrusive, small, compact and AF!

I go to NY for a four days trip this weekend so I will have the chance to test the lens intensively.

  4.
Thanks for you feedback.
My C.Fn-III-1 is set to 0 not 1.

Upgrading the firmware was the first thing I did and it did not solve the problem.

The camera had very few actuations when I purchased it as been used almost only for filming.

Next time I will try the AF ON button as suggested.

  5.
Marcus,
just to clarify:
Most of the time it works normally - red light on the active focus point.
But when it don't achieve the focus, there are no red light (which is normal) but as explained it sometime (not systematically) it blocks and there is no way to retry focus.
It does the same issue with all the focus points or only one point.
I shoot One shot 90% of the time and 10% AI servo.
If I dramatically reframe it don't make a difference.
The issue is hard to reproduce but it does happened 1-2% of the time.
If I shoot intensively during in a day it will happened a couple of times.

  6.
I did purchase a 5d mk2 (used) a couple of weeks ago and I sometime have issue with focus.
When I half press to focus it focus normally most of the time.
The issue is that when the lens do not focus properly, It will not restart focussing after I released the shutter and half press to retry focus. The only way the lens will start focussing is to change shooting mode (ex: ''A'' to ''M'', etc) or or do ''OFF-ON''.

It does the same issue with both 35/2 and 100/2 I own.

I did not have this issue with the 5d mk1.

Does anybody have the same issue with the 5D mk2?

  7.
I am no veteran but I went to Cuba 2 times and took a lot of nice pictures there. I went to Havana and Trinidad.
Don't be afraid to talk to the people , they are very nice. It will help you if you want to take good portraits. Give them small gifts could help as well.
Don't be afraid of people asking you money, if you just say no they won't be angry.
You can take superb street photgraphy there.

Julien

  8.
I own the Canon 60/2.8. It is a very nice lens:
-Sharp
-Great bokeh
-Solid, compact built
-Fast focus for macro lens
-Reasonnable price

But the Tamron will have f2. It it a great advantage. It will be interresting to see the reviews.

For now the Tamron is only announced. We know with Tamron that they can announce lenses 1 year before they make it available so if you want a lens now, I would not consider it...
