Thank you all for the responses.
Steinar: I will try out your suggestion, I'm sure it will help.
Patrick: I'm just using the grayscale conversion... (now, I'm going to sound very stupid), what is a channel mixer?
William: I'm using a very old program Adobe Business Edition. It does not even want to work on my new laptop, so I keep jumping between my old and new laptop.
Starvy: What kind of tool are you referring to, as I'm a bit clueless regarding the channel mixing...?

I use a Fujifilm S5000 digital camera and Adobe Business Edition for digital editing. My problem is the following: After capturing in colour, my pics are mostly just fine, but when I change it to b/w the images looses all it's sparkle and looks 'dead'. How can I fix that? Thank you.

I have received a + voting for helpfulness, but is there a way that I can find out from who? It would be nice to know which comment was helpful, as I sometimes comment on various photos per day.

There seems to be a slight problem with my ratings the past few days. When I view the amount of ratings on a specific photo in 'admin options' it differs from the amount of ratings in the 'ratings breakdown' section. There is more ratings in the 'ratings breakdown' section. (Hope I'm making sense.)Why is that? Rgds, Engela

Hi Patrick,
Thank you. Found it! It would have taken me a while to find that myself!

Hi there,
How do I see the ratings breakdown for each of my uploaded images? When I go to "admin options" and "show details" I only see the average ratings on each photo. I have searched on my own name and found 2 ratings breakdowns there, but I would like to see the rest as well.

Thank you, Lex. That makes sense. I must admit, I was a little worried because it seemed like my ratings disappeared and I thought it was something I did wrong. Rgds, Engela

Good day,
Although I joined PN in Nov 08, I only really started uploading photos in May this year. I'm still trying to find my way around the site.
My question is: I had 43 ratings yesterday, but today when I logged in I only had 37. Why is that? I did not delete any photos.
Kind regards,
Thank you all for your responses.
I'm from South Africa (the most beautiful country in the world!). Sad thing about living here, is that everything gets imported and we end up paying a lot of money for cameras and equipment.
I have recently bought darkroom equipment, second hand, for very cheap. (I was after the studio lights that was included with the sale.) I thought that now that I have the darkroom equipment, I might as well get myself a film camera. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience, what so ever. I'm starting from scratch.

I've recently started with photography, and I'm currently using a Fulifilm Finepix S5000 digital camera. Is it worth it to
buy a film camera in this digital age? I've been offered a Minolta Maxxum 5Xi film camera for R3500-00 (±400 US).
The camera is second hand of course.
I'm currently taking studio photos with my Finepix and I was wondering if a film camera would be better for studio
snaps.

Pentax and Sigma lenses
in Beginner Questions
Posted

Good day,
I got a a Pentax MZ-5N film camera as a gift from a friend. This came with two seperate lenses, a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 DL Macro Super and a SMC Pentax-FA 1:3.5-5.6 28-80mm.
My questions are:
1. Can I use these two lenses on modern digital cameras and off course, which make modern digital cameras?
2. Are these two lenses any good? I have used them on the film Pentax camera and they seemed ok, but we don't have a film lab in our small town and the nearest film lab is about 180km away from me.
3. For interest's sake, what are they worth nowadays, for in case I would want to sell them to buy better lenses?
4. I am currently using a Fujifilm FinePixS5000, which off course is outdated and it can not nearly do what the new cameras on the market can do. It has a fixed lens and I can not use the above lenses on it. If I should buy a new camera, which would be the best (I have a limited budget) camera that could work with the above mentioned lenses, if they are any good?
5. If you have any good information on these lenses, please be so kind to tell me.
Thanking you in advance for your help.
Kind regards,
