1.
I agree with you except that I have some really killer shots with this lens before the drop and now it just seems that maybe I am not, but I agree. The low light situation makes it all the more difficult I guess I have to experiment it the day light with lots of light and see if I have issues. With this small photo it is difficult to see that the details on the face of the guy on the left is more in focus than the guy to the far right, which I would understand if it was a DOF issue, however the drummer's face is also more in focus than the guy on the left. I should just send the lens in to have it tested instead of trying to guess I suppose, just trying to save the dollars.

  2.
I shoot a lot of concert photos and recently dropped my 10-22 f/2.8 wide angle lens. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my shots being out of focus but do recall have much better shots prior to dropping the lens. One shot in particular was shoot at 1/40 sec f/5.0, ISO 1250. Now I realize that 1/40 is slow but from what I understand with a 10-22 I should be able to shoot at that speed. From what I can see the whole picture is just lacking, not at all like my 70-200 lens shoot at the same settings. From front to back I can see some focus on people but out toward the sides (not completely) people go out of focus. I know I'm not being completely clear here, and I am going to see if there is an upload feature which I don't see here, so that I can upload the photo for everyone to see. I guess my question is why would the image of a 10-22 f/2.8 be so out of focus in comparison to my 70-200 lens and what do I need to do to achieve better in focus shoots? Or maybe I need to send my lens in because there is damage to it. Thoughts anyone?

  3.
Sorry if this is considered a newbie question but I'm being told that I should really start copyrighting work and it is suggested that I use eCo to do so. Does anyone else disagree with this form of copyright?
From what I could see it cost $35 for a collection of work (I think I'm not really sure as I am trying to get through the first setup.) I'm at the point where it is asking for a title to the collection which now brings up a number of questions on how all this really works.

Can I copyright my entire collection up to today's date? If so do they all get the copyright of 2011?

How much can be copyrighted at one time?

I'm assuming I submit low res photos, is that correct?

If the photos are not being used for any publication at the moment, do they still need to be copyrighted?

If I submit to Facebook, Twitter or Flickr will they still retain copyrights?

I know I have a lot of questions but I don't know anything about all of this so I figured these were good questions to start with. Thanks.

  4.
I am very interested in taking my photography to the next level. I've taken some classes, read a lot of books, taken some work shops and am looking for a buddy or group of people that might want to get together locally and go out on the weekends (preferably Sunday as I have my kids on Saturday) and do some shooting.

Looking for ideas and for people who may be experienced (or not), so that we can just do what we all love. I have a bunch of places that I would like to go and shoot, places I found on the Internet in the area that I think as a group or at least with someone that has the passion like I do would be more interesting and together sharing what knowledge we have together. We could even meet as a group to discuss and come up with stratagies if you'd like. Let me know what you guys think.

I am in Bergen County, NJ, not to from from NYC.

Thanks
~Vern

  5.
Well I have the equiment I have listed below.
And I'm realy not sure what I want to "delve into" but just like photography. I've taken a lot of landscape photos, flower photos, family photos, etc, but am looking to do anything that will help me improve my skills:
Canon 40D
Canon Digital Rebel XT
Canon 580EX II Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens
Canon EF 50 f/1.4 USM Standard Lens (58MM)
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens
Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro|
Tamron AF17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical (IF) - Wide Angle
Tamon SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro

  6.
Maybe there are some people in the Bergen County area (I'm in Fair Lawn) that might want to get together to try to do some experimenting? I mean there has to be other people in my area that would like to take their photography to the next level. Not looking for the basics here more of a how do you use all this great equipment you may have. I have a lot of great stuff that we can play with and figure stuff out....

Anyone?

  7.
Let me also add that I have read a tons of books over the years and am really looking for something more hands on, as I mentioned. It's not that I didn't find the info from NYIP helpful, I did and I did learn but much is very basic and out dated, IMHO. I have a ton of equipement and would really learn how to use it all correctly and really feel the best way to do that is with someone who does, not a bunch of books that don't really know my needs and then when I really do have a problem I have a real person to turn to.

Thanks

  8.
I am very interested in taking my photography to the next level. I've taken, and not completed the New York Institue of Photography. I learned some things but did not find their comments when I sent the photos in to be very helpful. I'm really looking for something more hands on. I wouldn't consider myself a beginner, but would really like to find something that give more project oriented and have real people to show me how to do it then send me off to do it and a later review of what I'm done. Wouldn't mind if they actually were with me when I did the shoot. Don't know, really looking for suggestions here. I'm in northern New Jersey, very close to BYC. Anyone with any ideas?
Thanks
9.
Hello all,
I have just purchased the Interfit EX150 and am having trouble setting things up. I actually think that the softbox could be defective. I've placed the ring in the center as expected and placed the rods in place but the box doesn't seems to want to keep it's shape, the sides seem to pull in and is not taunt at all. This is the first softbox I have ever put together and so I am thinking that I have done something wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

  10.
If anyone were to give these photos for use on their site, would you embed some type of copyright image with my name or logo or simply hand over the photos? Just because the guy says he's going to give me credit, what's to say he will. Honetly I know nothing about the business of selling photos, just enjoying taking them and have been taking some courses and spent a bunch of years practicing at shows. I'm thinking of giving smaller versions of the photos to only use on his web site so that I have the orginals.

Any thoughts?

  11.
I was at a concert where I got photo pass to see Blues Traveler. Created a web page and posted it to Blues Traveler's forum. The opening act has contacted me as he wants to use my photos on his web site. I'm thnking he wants to use them for free and thought I would post a question here. I actually have a few questions.

I would like to get into the business of concert photography and he is stating that he would give me full credit and that would actually get my work seen, I would imagine. Does anyone actually recommend this? Or would you ask for money? If so, how much and how would I go about doing something like that assuring that I do get the credit for the photos? I would assume that some type of copyright would be involved, no?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I really don't know where else to turn with this question.

Thanks

  12.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their input and say, first I returned the Canon - EF 2X II Extender Telephoto Accessory. Circut City is going out of business and is having a sale and I decided to get the Canon 40D Kit with a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras ($905) and am happy with what I've gotten.

  13.
I wasn't suggesting anyone make up my mind for me, rather looking for a healthy discussion on what people would do in my shoes. I have decided on the following, based on this thread and other research I have done. I will wait for some other time to purchase another body, at which time, who knows, perhaps the 40D will be even cheaper.

Canon - EF 50/1.4 USM STANDARD LENS (58MM)
Canon - EF 2X II Extender Telephoto Accessory
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR MACRO ASPHER f/CANON

Thanks

  14.
Thanks for all your feedback thus far!

I guess what I really should have asked is not if I should get another body so much as I am wondering if I should upgrade (thereby allowing me to have a 2nd camera, not so much that I don't have to swap lenses, but certainly a perk).

I really am wanting to get more professional and I do realize that knowledge and glass is of the utmost importantance.

Let's cover what I currently have:

Tamron AF17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical (IF)

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lenses

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (came with camera)

Canon 28-90mm (came with camera)

Quantaray 100-300mm F4.5-6.7 zoom lens

Quantaray QDC 900 WA Speedlight

I know that the last three listed lens are crap, but the first 2 aren't and at this point am really wondering what I should add to my arsinal as I have a grand in my budget to aquire something else.

I was thinking of a new lens but thinking that the 17-35mm wideangle covers my close up range and the 70-200mm covers the far away stuff. Perahps an in between lens, like the Canon Ultra-Wide Zoom EF f/2.8L USM Lens (24-70mm, F/2.8), would be a nice addition.

But then I started thinking that I have these 2 fairly decent lens and having read somewhere about having a decent body is something that should be looked into I started thinking that maybe instead of a lens I should be looking into a new camera. I know that I am getting good shots and am not complaining at all about the XT. I'm basicially wondering what the next logical step is.

  15.
I kind of guess that's the point of my asking. I don't know the differences between them and am wondering if upgrading is even worth it. I am an amateur photographer (I know a bit more than the average person and am taking an online class), am looking to take the next step and really don't know.

I had read somewhere that having a descent body is everything. I have taken some really good pictures with my XT. I like to have all my options open to me, but I do like to take landscapes, closeups of plants and bugs, portraits and rock concert photos. From what I have in this thread it appears that my best bet would be the 40D (or even the 50D if I want to spring for it). Should right?

  16.
I have a Canon Rebel XT and am thinking about getting a 2nd camera so that I don't have to swap lens all the time. Now the questions comes up of should I upgrade to a better Canon body, do I get a Nikon (bad choice IMHO because I have decent lens and would hate to have to get good ones for the Nikon as well). Can someone recommend a descent body as I am finding it hard to choose.

I think the XT has been replaced by the XTi and I have been looking at the 50D (which I very nearly purchased). What will I gain by purchasing the 50D. Is there a better choice for $1000 or in that range? Let me also say that I have read about the one coing out (Mark II or something) and could care less about th HD video part.

Thanks

  17. I've done my homework (or so I thought) asked around about just want I need for my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (it

is also called the EOS 350D correct?) I ordered the PC cable and for the life of me, I cannot find where to plug the

cord in. Does this camera not support off camera flash? Anyone know? Thanks.
