My wife owns a dance studio. I have done her pictures for 4 years now. We use a large backdrop on a stand, 2 mono lights w/ umbrellas (switching to softboxes this year) for the group and individual photos. Come up with some packages. I usually do 3 different packages. I also offer buttons, magnets, and keychains. Parents always want to add photos...usually 4x6 or wallets. I have an a la cart offering also. Make sure to make the a la cart photos only as add ons though. I had parent buying 2 4x6 without buying a package. I made null from those parents.
As far as the actual recital photos go. Fast lens and monopod. What I do is... take photos and offer an online purchase situation. Post them and let parents purchase after reviewing.
