  1. <p>As one who has both, I think that the D700 is definitely an upgrade. One of the places where I really notice it is with macro work; the bokeh is significantly better. The biggest problem is having to fork out for expensive lenses.</p>

Based on my usage, which is for landscape shots on a tripod (I use it on both a D300 and a D700), I think that I will stick with the VRI. The VRII definitely is sharper; however for prints up to 13x19 in., the VRI is sharp enough. Even with selling the VRI for a good price, the VRII would end up being quite expensive.</p>

  4. <p>I have talked with Nikon Tech Support and you definitely can use VR in conjunction with the AF-On button for focusing. When the shutter is released, the VR kicks in.</p>
