1.
Thanks for the helpful responses (Dave A !). The question seems like a reasonable one, particularly since it is pointed to people like Bob Atkins who have put a tremendous amount of time into the tech side of this hobby. Of course, many of my favorite photos came from my iphone. Sometime I just like the coolness of the machine. I do have some decent glass and am very tempted by the 70-200 2.8 but I fear that I may resent the added weight. Though not in the same IQ league, I even resent the heft of the 24-105. The 17-40 and 85 1.8 are my favorites.

"Probably the day after you buy a 5d MkII, though if you wait a little longer I hear the 5D MkIV will really be a killer camera."
Sarcastic snobbery is always unbecoming.

  2.
I have a very nice Sony HDTV and enjoy viewing photos on it via my Sony Play Station 3. It works but is very slow for larger files. The ps3 also can't read RAW files (which is my primary format). Is there a component that is geared for viewing at high resolution? The tv is within wireless range of my PC. Both the wireless and dvd/cd viewing via the PS3 are slow. I use Lightroom2 and CS4.

Thanks,

  3.
I am getting frustrated with white balance. Lightroom give some good options for correcting this but I'm not sure where to start. It seems that if i use a white card before a group of shots that will give me a point to balance to...
Is there a spec on the card? If you have done any painting at home, you know there are more shades of white than grains of sand.

Is it possible to set the white balance for a group of shots in Lightroom 2 in one step using the dropper tool?

Thanks

  4. I have a 5D and use the 24-105 and like it much more than I did on my 20D. I'm considering adding the 17-40 f4.

I primarily shoot portraits of my kids and landscapes as marketing images for my landscape company. Is the

    17-40 redundant with the 24-105? also have the 50 1.4 and 85 1.8.

    Thanks

    Martin
