  1. Back again with another question. Leica iiic, 1949, Elmar 3.5. I've loaded the film per the manual instructions.

It hangs and I get tears in the sprocket holes (would be on the edge nearest the top of the camera). There are 2

tears exactly where I assume the shutter lies. After

messing around considerably I have found:

    1. Take-up reel in just far enough to engage the sprocket and leaving the cover off, the shutter winds and the

rewind knob rotates ccw as it should.

    2. If I put the cover on (which looks ok), and wind, the film hangs and if I open I find that the film is now

    above the sprocket.

    3. I can move a piece of film back and forth so nothing appears to be blocking the path.

    4. I can see the sprockets move.

Is something out of alignment? Is it a serious, i.e. very difficult problem to have fixed? Who can fix it? What

    does a CLA cost.

The camera appears in fine shape otherwise. I got it on ebay and the seller will take it back so I'm trying to

    figure out if I should.

    Thanks,

  2. I bought a 1949 Leica iic on ebay. I got ahold of a Leica iiic manual and checked out how to remove the lens. I

don't get it. Extend the lens and turn it ccw, then turn the base (depth of field portion) ccw and the focus arm

moves ccw but stops at the screwed in pin under the viewfinder and the lens does not unscrew completely. Also,

the manual shows pictures of the Elmar with the distance scale attached to the lens but I seem to be trying to

unscrew the lens from the distance ring. Another photo shows the lens removed but the distance ring is not

    attached to the body. HELP!
