  1. I've had Rotator cuff surgery so I put my Hasselblad 500 CM in my closet. I was starting to feel better and wanted to take some photos. Everything works on it except the film roll holder key on the magazine won't turn. I can't load a roll of film in it. Please tell me it's something simple.

  2. You are invited to upload one or more of your landscape photos and, if you’d like, to accompany your image with some commentary: challenges you faced in making the image? your intent for the image? settings? post-processing decisions? why you did what you did? the place and time? or an aspect you’d like feedback on? And please feel free to ask questions of others who have posted images or to join the discussion. If you don’t feel like using words, that’s OK too—unaccompanied images (or unaccompanied words, for that matter) are also very much welcomed. As for the technicalities, the usual forum guidelines apply: files < 1 MB; image size <1000 px maximum dimension.

I attribute this one to luck. I was going through my catalog of scanned color negatives and found two frames taken within a few minutes of one another, a mediocre one of the island and a pretty good one of the beach. By chance, they overlapped just enough to merge into a panorama. This is northern California’s Trinidad State Beach, one of my favorites.

  3. Have you pulled the screen and looked at the underside?

On anything other than a 500c or 500el, you should see two levers/tabs at the edges of the screen when you remove the viewfinder. Push these into the camera body carefully, and when you dump the camera upside down the screen should fall out.

There MIGHT be something that can easily be blown/brushed off. Be extremely careful with Acute Matte screens, but the old style glass/condensor lens screens are reasonably durable.

    Thank you, Ben.

  4. I have been reading a bunch about the Fuji GSW690III and am hoping to buy one if I can find a nice one. For anyone who has (or had) one, what are the issues that I should look out for? I see some posted online that have cracks in the plastic or some corrosion on the strap mounts. That makes me nervous, but I'm sure there are other things to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an Fuji GW 670 III and I like it a lot. I did buy mine from Japan on Ebay and mine is in great shape. I must've got lucky. I'm not a professional so the noisy shutter or using the RF indoors doesn't bother me . I use it outdoors for landscapes and the 6X7 neg is great. And it's light in weight for the size of the neg you get.

  5. No Ben it is a black looking spot off the center. I'm glad that you guys reassured me. I love shooting film and all kinds of subjects.

Ed, Yes I'm dying to get out. I've been confined to my house by my wife because I'm in the high risk group. I also love fishing and target shooting. Haven't done much of either because with the density of NJ as soon as fishing opened they all crowded all the spots with no social distancing. King Murphy isn't too fond of anything that goes bang so the ranges just started opening up after 3-4 months. At least with photography you usually have more room.

I did have a funny experience in Naples, FL on their public fishing pier that projects out into the Gulf for about 100-200 yards. All the tourists were elbowing each other at the end of the pier to get a sunset picture. I told a 20 something guy to just stay here on the beach where there's more space, after all it's over 93 million miles away and 100 yards or so isn't going to get you any closer. :)

One last thing about cleaning. What do you guys do? My old SLR's in 35 mm didn't have much depth and a cheap blower did the job with a lens cloth or eyeglass cloth. I'm smart enough to stay away from the Zeiss lens. But what about the mirror, viewscreen or magnifier?

  6. I'm a new Blad user. When I look thru viewfinder I see a small black spot. I gently took it apart and cleaned any surface that I thought responsible but no luck. it appeared that without the magnifier, I did not see any spot but when I added the magnifier I did. It hasn't affected any photos but it bothers me. I thought i cleaned the magnifier but no?

Any suggestions besides telling me I'm overly concerned?

  7. <p>A month or two ago I picked up a Pentax 645 body. I quickly added the 75mm LS, the 45mm and the 120mm Macro lenes. They are all superb. I am also a former Pentax 6x7 user and it too is a great camera, however a bear to carry around. My wife was not too happy about being an unpaid pack mule for those bulky 6x7 lenses. I remember one time in Maine photographing lighthouses (one of my faves), with my 6x7 and my father yelling at me to watch out that the tide was coming in and I was on one of those slippery Maine rocks. Almost fell on my a** but I got the photo. Enjoy your new camera.</p>
  8. I had a Pentax 6x7 system about 30 years ago. It was a great camera. What sold me at the time was ease of use (similar to an SLR) and how sturdy it was, built like a tank. Also a pro aerial photographer in my town told me he uses a 'blad (of course), but his assistant used a Pentax and said his assistant's negs were almost as sharp as his own. That was a positive rave coming from a 'blad owner! The down sides are it's weight and size (I was 6'5" and about 275 lbs). Plus my wife hated helping me carry around the lenses (she was an unpaid assistant) while we vacationed with me taking pictures.

The 90mm LS lens is a very versatile one. Besides flash syncing at high speeds, fill in flash during the daytime, it is also the standard (same as a 50mm on a 35mm camera) lens and can be used simply as one. I wish I still had mine. Must have accessories are the wood handle grip to hand hold and the TTL prism is nice. You don't need a lot of other pieces to start. Good luck!

  9. Well I just picked up a pentax 645 manual body. Hate to sound stupid, but I couldn't find an answer in the search function. I know that older manual lenses will work on a new AF camera body, just without the AF function. But if I get an opportunity to get an AF lens cheap will it work on my manual body?
  10. I am getting back into photography after a 5-10 year hiatus. I still have a Minolta 35mm SLR, that I intend to practice

with. I used to have a Pentax 6x7 system, so I am no stranger to loud or unexplained noises. I would like to get a

used MF camera. Leaning to a Mamiya 645E or a Pentax 645. One of the websites had this quote about a Pentax

645..." The camera makes a rattling noise after the shutter fires, but it works fine." I don't mind having something

fixed if I get a good deal, but can anyone give me any thoughts about the Pentax noise? I plan to use the MF

camera for landscapes. Thanks in advance. Also new to site, it looks very good.
