This is once again a nice example of the kind of passion brazilian photographers nurture in depicting scenes of dayly life. This particular photo brings back to me the same sense of owe of my first encounter with the big city, where I lived for nearly six years. It is a reasonably accurate rendition of what I can remember, which is what I could see through my window for a long time. Although my life back there wasn't always a life at all, I do miss it so much! In this sense, for bringing back powerful memories, this picture and the others in Flávio's portfolio certainly do work very well for me. I would probably appreciate them even more if they were a little bit bigger. Flávio, congratulations on your POW and on your very nice portfolio.

Congratulations on your POW and on your beautiful portfolio, which is very much worth seeing.

Maciej,
I like the result. Please tell me how much adjustment you applied so I can do the same with the original image. Thank you.

There is a nice atmosphere in this place. I like it. You said 16 times multiscan? You did that yourself or you used a feature of your scanner? I suppose that it allows you to increase the D-range, right? But how do you cope with image alignment? Please tell me more.

Yes, I know. A word to the wise is sufficient. Thank you all for your comments.

Craig,
There was only artificial light at the show and that forced me to use the flash (a speedlite 200E) all the time. Unfortunately the exposure was unrecorded but I do remember this particular flower was backlit by a fluorecent light. I wasn't really worried about making photographs, but rather I wanted to take some pictures to show my wife, who couldn't be there at the time.
As to improving your flower photography skills, perhaps you might want to check out the excelent booklet from The Center for Nature Photography,The Field Guide to Photographing Flowers, by Rokach and Millman, ISBN 0-8174-3870-X.
GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a free image editing program that runs on Linux and Windows and aims at offering some Photoshop functionality to poor folks like me who can't afford that professional tool. You can find more info at the GIMP website.

My mouth's getting watery... I don't care about the cork, just fill my glass up :-)

Bruno, I actually thought that 5 was not too far from 5 1/2 as to compensate for the higher temperature. I know it is safer for the negative to be handled in temperatures below 24C, so I guess was basically being hasty. The end result was not so bad, and I didn't notice any uneveness. However it seems the negatives were a bit underdeveloped. Do you use lower tempeatures lower than the recommended one for T-Max?
-
Nice shot Bruno. It sure worked for me for your wife was the first thing my eyes landed on. Perhaps I should say that once again. Anyway, what did you do to steady your camera? I suppose you were not using a tripod with all those cops nearby, hehe!
-
Nice. I should try this one myself. I see you do your own development.
-
Cool. Try this one again in late afternoon or early morning and you might hit the bull's eye.

I like it too! I have been there so many times but I never had the idea of taking a picture of this altar, perhaps because of gear's limitations. I think it looks a bit somber though.

This was my first experience in registering the beautiful colors of
the Fall. Although I was very much pleased with the way Velvia
captured and perhaps even exagerated the colors I was seeing, I was
not very much satisfied with the composition. Although the colors are
look great, I am affraid my pictures still look a bit ordinary. I
would very much appreciate if you could make comments about this
particular work, specially on how I could have made it better. Please

I am much more amazed at what these kids are doing in a garbage dump! They should be where it is safe and where they can grow healthy and be protected. A very sad picture indeed, and an eye catching composition on the poverty theme. Good job.

I would like a little more contrast

Awesome

Wow! Great colors and light. Too bad I went there at night!
-
Great colors. I like it.

Interesting use of mirrored image makes a car look like a bike.

It bothers me a little bit the tight cropping on the left. Nevertheless I love it for its colors, sparklings and the beautiful flower. Keep up the good work!
-
I like the shot a lot. However, try using the softer light of early morning or late afternoon along with a polarizer. A tighter crop would also reveal more about the beauty of the subject.
