1.
Hey Josh,, I was wondering what you thought of the access to your equipment with the Lowepro DryZone pack. I was reading reviews on Amazon about it and people are complaining about the fact that the zippers are hard and only are waterproof using some type of wax or something? Let me know what you think if you can,, I bought a kayak yesterday and need to protect my gear in something better than a dry bag. Also,, do you use an anchor with your kayak?
Thanks!
2.
Hi John
I wanted to let you know of a good deal if it is still available. I bought a refurbished Wacom Intuos 3 thru Amazon Wharehouse deals. Here is a link. I have not been able to play with it yet or get comfortable with it yet ,, but I can't wait. http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos3-Graphics-Pentools-Refurbished/dp/B001NANLOI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263167944&sr=8-1
If this link doesn't work,, go to AMAZON.COM and search for Wacom Intuos 3 refirbished and you will find it.
Just a thought. :)
3.
Hey Ted, thanks for the link. I think that I need to clarify. I don't need to cover the entire globe. I have sized down photos into about 2in.x1.5in sizes. They are rectangle. They are much much smaller than the globe. But even still,, when I try to put them on,, they bend all up. I am wondering if I need to create some geometrical shape in Photoshop in order for them to bend the right way. I can send a photo of what I am trying to do if that helps! Give me a few minutes,, and I will post one. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!
4.
Can anyone tell me where to find info on how to prepare an image for mounting on a round shape? I am printing photos on Inkjet waterslide paper, which when soaked in water can be slid off and mounted on glass or other surfaces. Problem is I can't seem to figure how to shape the image in CS4 correctly so it will mount on a round Christmas globe without wrinkling up. Of course my rectangle shaped images do not fit properly . I am using Adobe CS4 on Windows Vista 64bit. Using a Epson Photo 2200 printer. Could anyone help ? thankyou Christy

 5.
Thanks so much everyone for responding! I enjoyed the links and discussions about dpi. I have learned a lot. I have decided to provide pictures for the customers for the web at no additional cost. I put my copyright stamp on it for the free advertising and size the pixels down as recommended by you guys. Thanks so much! I couldn't live without these forums! :)
6.
Hi Don
Some schools have specific requirements. Some won't let you have any hands,, or props,, or even specify the distance the head should be from the top of the paper. Others have very minimal requirements and allow full body or 3/4 shots. I don't send in a disc,, I always get the requirements and just order a wallet, or yearbook photo for them with my order. You can send it in ,, or you can send it in with the student. I would call the school and ask to speak with the person in charge of the yearbook.
7.
Have you run all the updates for bridge? Also,, are you using a newer Canon? It is possible you need to update the DNG converter in RAW. I would do a total clean install. When I switched over to Vista 64, I had all sorts of problems. I was not able to read my Canon EOS raw files either, and had to run some updates from the Adobe site. You might check this out,,, http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4576 There is a link on there for supported cameras.
Have you tried running a complete clean install? If you have any trouble getting the updates to run,, you may have to completely remove your spyware. I had ZoneAlarm, and disabling it was not enough. I had to completely remove it from my machine in order to get the updates to work either manually or from the Help section on Photoshop.
Hope some of this helps. Vista 64 gave me a huge amount of trouble in more areas than I ever thought it would. Now that things are smoothly running FINALLY,,, it is not a bother.
Good Luck!
8.
I really love ifp3. Although I am not very good at getting it looking good. It is completely user friendly,, cost 30.00 a month. They don't print,, but people can order on your site. You don't have to have your site URLsay" ifp3" either,, which I like. Check it out!
I would not recommend Blue Domain tho,, hated the customer service there. Very slow at getting back to you. ifp3 gets back to you quickly. I have never had any trouble with it.

 9.
What I usually do to downsize for the web is I check "resample " and then I put in the lower DPI, and also resize the images down to about 1200 x 800 pixels, if putting them on my website.(so they could even be smaller than that and look okay on facebook?)... I have the larger files at 300dpi without the resample option checked. Is this how you do it? It seems to take forever ,, to make files of both sizes of the finished edited photo,, I think I will make a CD for them,, or just post them on Facebook as you said. I have been afraid to even have my business on myspace. I was afraid of them printing all the images. You guys have really made me feel more confidant. I need to use it as a marketing tool like you all are suggesting. (By the way,, I get myspace and facebook confused in my typing,, I only have one of them,, pretty new at the facebooking stuff,, joined up to talk with a teenage neice of mine,, and boom,, I see everyone but me has been using it for business ! )

 10.
I have been asked for permission to post pictures on Facebook. To be clear, this is from a client, who I have allready shot the photos and they have purchased a portrait package. I have never posted any of my work on FaceBook for fear that people will just print them off like mad. How do others do this? Do I simply upload them the files at 72dpi and downsize them so that they can't be printed well without pixilating? Or do I just upload them with a watermark on them? I do have them in a private gallary on my site for them to view,,, but I get this request often. Actually I was surprised they asked,, most people just scan them in and post away without a care in the world anymore! Not sure if the best thing to do is just charge by the edited print these days instead of having customers buy "packages" and worry about them scanning them in and making prints. I loath the thought of anyone printing my work at Costco tho,,, so I trudge on. I would love to hear your input!
11.
Okay,, I am heading out to hike for a week. When I come back (with memory cards jamm packed full),, I will follow the advice you guys have been so kind to give. Thanks so much. I do have Lightroom 2 , but havent' used it much since I updated to CS4 from CS3. I love the RAW interface ,, its fantastic. So if I use Canons RAW software,, how does it compare? Any comments on that?
I will let you know how this turns out when I come back .
:) Christy

 12.
Elliott, can you give me a little more info on DPP? I usually import the images directly from my card to Bridge. Can you give me an alternate way of converting them first? For instance,, if I don't upload them directly to Bridge from the card,, would I just upload them to the desktop? And if so,, then what software would I use to convert to DDP,, the software that came with my camera? And finally , then would I convert to DNG when uploading to Bridge after having all files converted to DDP?
Sorry to be such a novice,, guess I know absolutly nothing about DPP. I appreciate all of the answers!
Thanks!
Christy

 13.
Can anyone tell me why my pictures look so bright and colorful on the LCD on my camera,, but not in CS4? I have a fully calibrated monitor, and think that my workflow is set up correctly.
I shoot with a 50D. All Raw.
Bring them into CS4 , convert to DNG
Use 8 bit sRGB as my working space (I send outsource printing)
The images have such less saturation on screen.
Do I need to be changing some settings on my camera so that what I view is more accurate?
Thanks for your help in advance.
14.
Hello
I would love to hear your thoughts on different print textures that you use and why you love them. I am experimenting with different textures through Millers for my portraits. I just had a senior session printed with the pebble finish,, and I am not sure I like it. It almost looks like the kiddo has little pock marks on his face. On the other hand,, when I scanned it,, I loved it as it scanned terribly. This is one tiny weapon against the all too rampid copyright ignoring that I have seen from the general public. I have had many customers order the cheapest package,, and scan away when they get their prints.
Thanks for the Advice!
