  2. +1 to everything David H said about Blurb. I use them for about 7 different books a year of grand kids & grand kids sports teams photo books I give as Christmas presents. I also prefer the older BookSmart over the newer BookWright software, perhaps just because I am more familiar with BookSmart. You can easily modify the existing page layouts or create new ones from scratch. Mixing photos and text boxes is easy. In addition to their special discount offers, there is usually a discount for signing up a friend. Both parties get some discount – either in percent off or straight dollars. I also get mine ready, then wait on the 50% off special that usually happens around Black Friday. I have also found it best to bump up the saturation & contrast a little as David suggests. The only place I differ from David is where to stop. The size book I use has a 242 page limit. I hit that limit every time, but I tell myself it is so the books will have a consistent look from year to year.
  3. I know a guy who shoots high school sports for a website ran by a local radio station. The station also broadcasts the games so they encourage him to get some shots up at halftime and again a few minutes after the game. He rates on the fly to identify the ones he wants to upload on game day. By the next morning he usually has a better selection up, but the couple dozen he uploads during the game draws a lot of traffic to the site. He jokes that for high school kids, fast is always better than good.

  6. We had something similar (Laminex 2+2) where I work and used it until going digital in the mid-1990's. When we stopped using it, I put the camera in it's box and saved it. I don't believe that box has been opened until today. As rodeo mentions, ours does have places for 4 lens, but two are blanked out. There is a switch to select between one or two images. The back is a Polaroid and rotates 180°, so after taking the first exposure (pic 1 & 2) you can rotate the back 180° and expose again to get pics 3 & 4. We also had the punch rodeo mentioned to cut out all 4 images in one motion. One went on the employee's ID badge, one went to the Security office Rolodex, one went to HR's Rolodex, and the final one went on a laminated lock-out / tag-out type card if the employee was in Maintenance. Bonus: It has a full pack of film in it but I have not figured out how to trigger the shutter. It has what looks like a PC (Prontor-Compur) port and a 120vac outlet on top.
  7. They will come out at Barkley Dam if they think you are pissing on the Weather Forecasting Stone, but once you let them in on the joke, they back off with a smile.
  8. As the guy who posted the first sign at Kentucky Dam (TVA), I can confirm that the same sign is posted at Barkley Dam (USACE). However, like Ricochetrider, I have walked right past that sign at Kentucky Dam many times and photographed many things, including the Delta Mariner taking rocket parts to Cape Canaveral and the 101st Airborne returning home (who knew they traveled by barge). I have never been stopped, questioned, or even looked at sideways as far as I know.
  9. There are two dams in my area, one managed by the USACE (Barkley Dam) and the other by the T.V.A. (Kentucky Dam). While I do not recall seeing any signs at Barkley Dam, there are restricted areas. At Kentucky Dam the restricted areas have this sign posted.
