    Wedding day II

          3

    Hi,

I like the concept, but the alternating bright and dark of the pillars and sun behind the family detract from the subject.  Could you use a little photo magic and darken the bright spots and lighten the foreground?

I took this picture of my wife's niece and her fiance the night before their

wedding. I wanted to get a good silhouette of them and the awesome

    sunset. How'd I do?

    Hi,

On a recent visit to San Diego, I spent a few hours at the Torry Pines

GliderPort (actually in La Jolla). I would love some feedback. I'm

considering posting a couple of the pics I took in contests or submitting

them for publication in magazines on the topic.

    Thanks!

An old farmhouse and outbuildings by my home are being cleared to

make room for a new apartment building. They call this 'progress'. I'm

not sure that I agree... I would love to hear your thoughts.

Very cool capture. Have you tried adding some fill to the image? I wonder if by lightening up the shadow around the outside of the frog, if it would make the frog stand out more? The shallow depth of focus helps to separate it from the background, but I wonder how you could make it 'pop' more.
  1. Love it! I have to settle for taking pictures of lions at the zoo. Depth of focus is great and really focuses your eye on the lions. Would have liked to see more of the little one, but you don't really have control over that do you?!

    In boxing terms, you've got a great 1 - 2 here!

    1. Excellent lighting. The lighting of her face shows the intensity of her workout. The tattoo lends a hint of toughness to what might otherwise appear to be a pretty girl posing.

    2. Motion blur lends authenticity to the punch. Your shutter speed was slow enough to achieve the blur yet quick enough to clearly capture the look on her face.. The shallow depth of focus separates her from the rest of the image and focuses the viewer's attention

    Nice combination!

  2. I'm new to this critique thing, but I'm finding a can learn a lot about my work by looking at other peoples. The timing of your shot is great, and the shallow depth of focus really makes the kid and bike stand out from the background. I think you might have made it even better by doing 2 things differently.

    1. You've zoomed (or cropped) in really close, but we have no idea how high the bike is from the ground. If you show a little more below the bike, we might be even more impressed.

    2. You obviously used a very high shutter speed since we can see the spokes of the wheels clearly. This is where using a slower shutter speed may help. If the spokes were blurred, we would get the impression of speed as well, which would add to the picture.

    Keep shooting!
