1.
I have and have watched the DVD's though several times. I am basing my business model on them, and here is why.
I don't think it is a legit objection to his business model to say that it is underhanded to design a huge album for the client, given one that you are honest and up front with the client about the fact that album prices will vary, that the album credit may or may not cover the final cost of the album depending on their choices, and that you give them ample opportunity to edit it to what they want and can afford. Seems to me that Gary has a model where if a couple wanted to take advantage of him they could by editing his album down to near nothing, but then what end product would they have? Seems to me also that a shoot/burn photographer is like an order taker and not a photographer. The album is the end product, anyone can click a button, and burn a disc. Also the last point to make is that, assuming that photographer(s) all honestly communicate how their respective programs work, the choice is always the clients. Some will actually prefer the Fong model and some won't. So in this marketplace just like any other product there is plenty of room for a variety of ways of doing things, because not all brides and grooms are the same.

  2. I have been using Canon's 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS and I couldn't do what I do without it. I am a wedding and family

photographer and I find myself in some dark places, and I like to shoot available light if I can, although even with a 2.8 I

cant always. Another option of course is to get a prime lens that is even faster and for that I like Canon's 85mm f/1.2 L I

can get a lot of light in with that for sure, 4x as much as a 2.8. Of course the bokeh don't hurt either.

  3. In our business we have two sections to display images. One is for "proofing" these are untouched and the client

understands that they are merely for them to pick out favorites and ones they want for the album. Then we go to town

touching up what was picked out preparing them for albums and for online sales. I think it actually does help the business

when they see the difference between just what comes off the camera and what I am able to do with it. There is a need for

clear communication with this approach however.
