This is a great example of a risk paying off. That is some mighty awkward lighting you are dealing with there, and I think you made it work quite well, especially with those pastels in the foreground.

It is not often you are browsing through a complete stranger's portfolio and come across a photo of someone you know. Yet here we are! The man in front is my good friend Larry Reinke.

You were hanging out the window while driving on the M-6 just south of GR. :) Don't worry, it is more common than you think.
Great cloud!

Love the color intensity, Debra! I also like the non-traditional cropping. It really lends a great deal of power to the image. Stunning shot!

Exceptional shot, Shane! Great framing, contrast, content...the whole package.

Judging by your photo here Ken, things are working quite well! Very nice shot!

Great job with capturing not only a beautiful image, but the parallel emotion as well. Excellent shot Alex!

Absolutely stunning photo Eric. Maybe the tiniest bit heavy on saturation, but I think that is what gives this particular image such fullness. Great job!

Great shot Eileen, I like the composition especially. I was going to say that it looked a little dark, but when I saw it juxtaposed with your other flower images I think that having it darker works quite well. Nice portfolio, and beautiful job on this one!
Another Flower close-up

Jerry, I have a similar shot of the same type of flower in the rotation right now. And while I don't want to say your interpretation of the subject is wrong, I would like to offer reasons why I would not have done what you have done with this shot.
Regarding the saturation first, the yellow and reds are indeed more full and rich as a result of the added saturation, but you have as a result also eliminated the brilliant white which is what gives this flower most of its striking power when it comes to contrast.
Personally, I have nothing against cropping a close-up to a macro level as long as quality doesn't suffer, and in this case I think that you did fine as far as that goes. In my shot I wanted more of the petals to show, as I thought the red contrasted very nicely with the green in the center and I wanted to show that off. In looking at your shot, I think I should have gotten a little tighter with mine, but I would not have gone in as close as you did unless I was going for a true macro shot of the pollen grains or somesuch.
You have some great orchid shots in your portfolio, btw!!
Keep up the good work!
