4000 Miles of rare Palouse grasslands are being slowly torn up by our
ever growing population in the world. the Mountain in back is 100
miles East and Called Mica Peak. this was to be used for a story
concerning the city of Cheney building a park where feed and wheat was
grown...cutting room floor. I had 60 to choose from:-)

I first came to this location in 1996. The local sheriff was finding
dead bodies nearby..and having been an old journalist...I
queried....This location is only a couple miles from where a serial
killer of prostitutes left his bodies. He is now convicted and
sentenced to death. Yates is the mans name....a good 'Christian' some
said. He killed dozens of women...I took this photo today in 2008 and
still felt chills....

So many buttes that they appear to disappear into the horizon..and
indeed they do...In this picture one can get a real good idea of just
how large these buttes are...consider this...The tiny winding line is
a fence. I have stood next to that fence and it is about 5 feet
high...Now think of that as you look upwards toward the top of the
butte! And from the top, one can see dozens more surrounding this
one...some with grasses and some with feed...and some with weed...and
some with basalt..slowly then dropping into the Channeled Scablands.
It is an amazing site! to see this an know that ancient times people
lived here...they never felt they owned it, but there were just
caretakers in the oral traditions..

I happened to be out shooting a movie documentary of the change of
seasons in Eastern Washington. This particular spot was full of
autumnal colours...but these three characters came in from perhaps
central casting...Needless to say I waited until they left my scene
before continuing:-)

Looks like the neo-nature urban warfare.....almost art deco...21st century style:-)

This old truck has been parked here for 19 years. The house (*left of
truck and partially hidden) looks even older and is pretty much a
shambles, but still inhabited.

This was once prairie lands home of Chief Joseph who said: "I have
carried a heavy load on my back ever since I was a boy. I realized
then that we could not hold our own with the white men. We were like
deer. They were like grizzly bears. We had small country. Their
country was large. We were contented to let things remain as the Great
Spirit Chief made them. They were not, and would change the rivers and
mountains if they did not suit them."

I learned all of my photography from my father in a period starting
circa 1952, including darkroom work. All of the photos in this album
are taken under direction of my father or by my father pictured. His
guidance gave me a profitable and rewarding career in photography from
which I am now retired.

This is a "Business Template for Film". That's the technical term. Ihave done many over the years for about a dozen movies. It has been along time. This one I just did for an Indie film which is inproduction now locally in Eastern Washington. It is one of the manywhich I did not choose to submit.
These are used to lay over, either in film fonts or segues into newscenes..In this case it will be use as a part of a collage...well notthis one..but the rest:-)

Self portrait. I am doing a documentary in HD video for posterity.
Truly I was done filming and reaching to stop the camera at this
particular moment. It is the neuvo way of taking images according to
the National Press Photographers Association (*of which I am a retired
member). Many print newspapers are now working with it. I just play
with the still of it...but the video is "serious" business:-)

Over 45 years in the business and every fall.... come on late, I try to get a shot which depicts that specific point in time when the true turn from fall to early winter arrives.
In my mind I visualize the last leaf or last leaves and have taken various images at various angles, times and colorizations. It appears to me that this is exactly what the photographer was attempting to do in this image...and from the full portfolio I see many images of trees with sullen or mysterious moods. In light of my own attempts, and if I assume correctly, then this image works for me.
I see little to no PP and if so it is hidden well. Another said that they too have seen such images and live scenes in the Pacific NW. I lived in the wilderness moutains of Washington East Side for a dozen years and I too have seen this type of scene and have recorded it. My images are comparable...yet different.
For me....it is a good example of a mood and time of change. IOW...it would certainly be worthy of publishing in a smaller circulation newspaper where it might be more appreciated in a way only locals would understand.
