Thanks, Jose. I have two Imagons, and both were originally made for use on medium-format cameras. One, 120mm, was used on a Leica and had a t-mount, which made adapting it a matter of finding the right adapter. That is the lens I used for the Pictorialist Arboretum series.

The other, 200mm, was made for Mamiya RB67, and needed a focusing helical. I now use it on a Linhof lensboard, and use the Nikon D3 on a CameraFusion sliding digital back. I have many large-format lenses that I can use that way.

The Pinkham & Smith is mounted on a gutted 50mm Nikon lens, and mounts directly. There is a photo of it in the P&S lens gallery on my site.

I have been using High-ISO effects coupled with historical soft-focus lenses to achieve a stylistic effect. I have an exhibit of seven large prints opening October 4, 6:30 pm in the Meany Hall Lower Lobby Gallery, University of Washington, Seattle. These will be on exhibit for the next 12 months:
http://hemingway.cs.washington.edu/portfolio/#/content/029-Arboretum/1-Artist's%20Statement.jpg
Many of those were shot above ISO 2000; several were at ISO 3200. The effect, printed large on fine-art paper is stunning.
Bruce Hemingway
+Bruce

Thanks, everyone. The Wayback Machine is a great resource.
The Soligor is a fine lens with superb workmanship. It was one of Soligor's C/D line, which was a deluxe version. It's only flaw is in it's lack of modern coatings, which accounts for it's susceptability to veiling flare from incident light on that very large front element. Carefully used, that quality can be an asset, however.
Here is one more sample, wide-open, of course:

The D3, and some good glass. I moved up from a D70. The visual world shifted. Now it's up to me; I can't hide behind the limitations of the equipment.

I have both the 14-24 and the 20mm (non-D) AF with my D3. There is nothing to match the 14-24, but the 20mm is in my bag every day, because of size and weight issues.
My light-weight kit is 20mm AF, 28-105 AF, and 180mm 2.8 AF.
My "big guns" kit is 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 VR.

28-105 AF, 180 2.8 AF, and Vivitar 70-150 mf, all purchased used.

If you use Firefox, there is an add-on extension for viewing metadata:

Right-click on a photo, and the EXIF data is shown.

In addition to Nikon glass, I use the Tokina 90mm f/2.5 AIS macro. Wonderful lens!

I have the D3, and 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200VR lenses for it. I also have the 24-120VR, which spends more time
than the rest on the camera. Why? a) it's good enough for everyday shooting, and b) it's so much lighter. The
others come out when criticality is important.
Here is an gallery all shot with D3 and 24-120VR:

I have the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200VR for my D3. I carry the 24-120VR as my everyday walkabout lens. It's fine.
Of course, it's not as sharp as the big guys, but a little pp helps. For extra range I add the 20 2.8AF and/or
the 200 f4 AI for a light-weight kit. The big guys come out for critical shooting.
The 24-120VR benefits from AF fine tuning on those bodies that offer that feature, as well as careful post
processing. Some of my favorite shots are with this lens-- pictures I wouldn't have made because I wouldn't
carry the weight of the big guys.

Here is another crop that shows the "painterly" effect the noise gives in this image:
