1. Excellent points about depth of field with 6x7 format. Consider the 35mm camera using 85mm f/1.8 for subject isolation in portraits, the 6x7 portrait lens is often a 150mm f/4. Note that Bronica GS-1 was built to be a lighter 6x7 than Pentax and Mamiya. All lenses are leaf with maximum speed of 1/500 and the lenses are slower f stop which keeps the

lenses lighter and smaller. Fastest lenses are 80mm f/3.5 and 100mm f/3.5. The 150mm is equivalent to 75mm and the 200mm is equivalent to 100mm neither is particularly close focusing thus an 18mm extension tube is used for close headshots.

  2.
I will be moving to Arizona near four-corners. I would like to know the pros and cons of using a Mamiya Cabin 67-Z slide projector with 6x7 slides vs a digital projector with 24 mpx images from a Pentax k3. Landscape photos are the most likely subject.
I have both 6x7 and 645 film cameras. I will need to buy a projector. Any thoughts on the screen image differences?
3.
I have an RF645 which I bought 2nd hand some years ago. The film advance mechanism was a problem on many of these. Things were fine for a while but ..... Eventually on mine the film would not advance. I sent it to Tamron/Bronica service in New York and all is fine now. If you like film this is a really nice camera.

  4.
Completely off task here .... but Pentax K-mount and current Pentax in body stabilization means all lenses from Pentax A lens forward have both metering and shake reduction. As to what that will mean in sales volume for the coming in 2016 Pentax Full Frame digital SLR I have no idea. Has Ricoh saved Pentax? Time will tell. Ricoh is now introducing more Full Frame lenses.

  5.
Great Work Ivan. Very enjoyable photos.
I am a bicyclist who likes to tour and camp. The size of the Nikon 1 system is significantly smaller than HEX etch. when the entire kit is included. For most trips I take the 10-30 & 30-110 zooms and the 18.5
The fast accurate focus, high frame rates, & the occasional video in such a small package are really appealing to me. (I have a Samsung Note II phone for snapshots but as you point out the iPhone is no match for the Nikon 1 system, neither is the Note II).
I would really like a native Nikon 1 70-300 or a 70-200 f2.8 for shooting indoor basketball.
I will be buying the 6.7-13mm zoom for landscapes as I am in Nevada and am surrounded by landscape.
This camera is great fun to use. I've even thought about purchasing the PD Zoom 10-100 for better video now that the prices are a bit lower. (I would not be taking that camping).
Thanks again for the great photos.
6.
What is the learning curve on being able to use and handle the Canon as well as you use your Nikons?
Is this cost of a new body every three years because they wear out or because they become obsolete?
What is the maximum print size you need? How much camera does it take to produce that size?
For my son a D700 with that 24-70mm f2.8 zoom does just fine. The Resolution with a 50mm f1.8 seems pretty similar to 6x7 film.
So do you really need a digital camera that has the resolving power of a 4x5 view camera?
How long will that Nikon D3 last before it wears out?
Seems to me that the next Nikon will likely be better than a 6x7 medium format camera.
How much difference can one see at a 20 in x 16 in print size when a D700 or D3 is compared with a D3x?
Yes there were lots of improvements from D1 to D3 and from D100 to D300 and they were useful. I do not expect to see anywhere near as much in useful gains in picture quality in the next decade.
The camera manufactures are in business to sell cameras ... new may not always be new and improved .. as far as actually improving output quality.
.
I do not live in NZ but I'd vote for sticking with the Nikon for at least 12 months more, if possible.
