Van,

I travel to the caribean often and have never had an issue. I travel with a 5DMII and a 40D. Along with all my lenses.

Hi Catherine.

Like some have said here...flash is also good for outdoor photography to be used as a filler of light. Once you get used to using it outside you will miss it when you don't use it. I'll see if I can upload a few examples but I'm sure you can find them on the web flash vs. non-flash outdoors.

I'd say go for the 5DMII with 17-40 for landscapes. I have this combination and absolutely love it.

T2i with 18 - 135mm lens, 50mm 1.8 lens and a 430ex flash

I have not read all the responses from the others but I can tell you the following. I own the 50MM 1.2L and if I had to buy it again I would. The lens is very heavy but worth carrying around. The bokeh it produces is just phenomenal! So sharp too. I also own the macro 100mm 2.8L IS. Amazing piece of glass. Big upgrade from the previous version.

Lastly...looking at your kit I would go for the 50mm 1.2L to use as my main portrait lens.

-

I own the 50mm 1.2L. Prior to that owned the 50mm 1.8. HUGE difference! the 1.2L is much more sharper and produces amazing bokeh over the 1.8.

I know it's not the answer that you are looking for but...I own the Canon f1.2L and absoultely love this lens! It produces the best bokeh out of all of my L glass.

Only option for you if you don't want to spend too much is the 17-40 4L. I own this lens and vouch for it. Glad I didn't spend the extra money for the 16-35 2.8.

Tim,

I had the 50MM 1.8 and later shelled out the cash for the 1.2 and TO ME the difference is night and day. Much nicer bokeh and much sharper image. If I had to do this again I would do it without even thinking about it twice. If you have the money...go for it!
I also use the kit lens (24-105 4L) quite extensively. This lens gets a lot of use from me as it is my main one. The 50mm I pop on when I am doing portraits or I am in a low light situation.

Hope my comment was of some help to you.

Didn't read through all the responses...

Has anybody told you maybe this guy is HATING on your gear? He wants a 5DMII bad!

I was torn between these two lenses. Read ALL online reviews and comparisons. I settled for the 17-40 and I am quite happy with it. I've done some amazing work with it.

David,

I would go with any opiton that has the 70-200 4 non IS lens. I owned this lens and really loved shooting with it. And for that price you can't go wrong!

Thanks gents! 1/200 is ok for what I will be using them for. If I need faster I will look into the Flex system.

Hello all.

This is driving me crazy and I can't figure out a setting to make this work.

This is what I am shooting with: 5DMII, 580EX II, PocketWizard Plus II Transceiver.

The first photo was shot:
Manual
Shutter: 320
Aperture: 4.0
ISO: 250

Flash: manual (no custom settings just set to manual)

Second photo:
Manual
Shutter: 200
Aperture: 4.0
ISO: 250

Flash: manual (no custom settings just set to manual)

Is there a setting on the flash or camera that will allow me to shoot in high shutter speeds and not having that black bar at the bottom appear? I know it has something to do with curtain etc and I'm being lazy this Saturday afternoon. I have my photo books down in the basement hehehehe don't want to make the trip down.

Thanks all in advance for your feedback.

Nope. Don't miss pop-up flash on 5DMII. Matter of fact, never even used it on my 40D. I simply don't like the light pop-ups produce. Horrible!

Paul,

I'd think they would replace the camera but that is in an ideal world. I had a problem with a faulty dell laptop and they sent a tech out about 10 times before I got a new one. So keep on sending it in. Eventually, I hope they will give you one that works. You'd think that since we shell out so much money for this camera they would just replace it. It is sooooo irritating!

I am onboard with all that say IS does make a difference. I too have done a few test shots and notice the difference so yes...IS does make a difference.

-

Major difference as others stated. Just the full frame sensor alone blows the 20D out of the water. I own a 40D and a 5DMII. I love my 5DMII I can't seem to put it down :-)

I picked up this lens with the 5D MII a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. So far it produces some of the best images in my lens collection. I am in love with it so I would say definitely worth it. However, as a poster mentioned, won't be the same on a crop sensor.

Sam,

Not to say what you are saying isn't true but I picked up a 5DMII kit a few weeks ago and prior to that watched the price for two months at B&H. The only price I saw was always 2,699 for the body and 3,499 for the kit. Even when it was back-ordered.

I own this lens and absolutely love it for travel ans scenery photos. However, it is up to you if it's a good idea to buy it used on ebay.

The shots of the beach on this gallery were done with my 10-22 on a 40D (circular polirizer)
http://noelalexanderphotos.com/Travel/Dominican-Republic/9476820_BH9Dh#636097250_mR5zx

Just make your FB profile private and non-searchable. It is definitely possible. Then also create a page for your business. That simple. No need to drown in a cup of water here.

Thanks Ivan...the things people say lol

Scott,
After reading your and the other's suggestions I have chosen to shoot in RAW only. It's much simpler and it is saving me space. If I decide I want a JPEG out of a few images it's easier for me to just work on the RAW and save the JPEG.
