a very interesting discussion here.
I have another question: can you put the Tokina lens on a 5D MkII ?

why you can buy in the same category a 450D, a 500D AND a 550D? What's the reason?
The 40D was put away very fast, after the 50D was there.

For my EOS 40D I sold the kit lens 17-85.
Now I ask me, if it was a good idea to bought the EF 24-105 L and the 17-40 L. Or should I buy not the 17-40 L but the 16-35 L, to have more open aperture? I can still bring back the lens and modify my order.
I have the 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm L IS f/4.0 and wanted to have wide angle till 70 or 100mm
What do you meen?
I want to have lenses for being free to change some times to 35mm format.

I have a Canon 40D and I consider to buy most L lenses, because I want to have sometimes a fullframe cam, like the 5D.
Is this a good idea? Or should I have to buy EF-S lenses?
I have now the kit lens EF-S 17-85mm and EF 50mm f/1.4, EF 100mm macro f/2.8 and the EF 70-200mm L IS USM.
Wanted to sell the kit lens and buy e.g. EF 16-35mm and/or EF 24-70mm f/2.8. Above all min f/2.8

I was disappointed about the new "innovative" 60D.
All these feartures they could have made after the 40D. Nothing is realy new. Only the display, but this cam is not a semi prof cam.
