Can that price be right; that's less then $1800.00 USD?

Thanks to everyone for their input, an additional thanks to Philip; for your insight.

No the grass isn't always greener, I was just looking for some input.. I guess its because I've experienced a few glitches with sony products. First I sent my A700 to sony in texas for sensor cleaning and it actually came back worse then when I sent it out...

I have a Sony A700 & A100. I am pondering switching to Nikon D300 or possibly D700. Or staying with Sony and adding either the A850 or A900. Does anyone have practical experience with both brands and a opinion or each one. I own Sony 70-400mm G, 11-18mm, Tamron 70-200mm, 17-50mm, and a Minolta 50mm 1.7, all are Sony mounts .

Many thanks to everybody for your responses.

Has anyone experimented with the Lens Baby. I am thinking of purchasing it because it seems like it can
perform some special effects. Also which model performs the best, (I guess that is also a personal preference).
Thanks for all comments. ..... Bob</p

Sent my A700 to sony in Texas for sensor cleaning, it came back worse then when I sent it to sony. Any
recommendations on cleaning the sensor on the A700. Seems like there are embedded stains on the sensor not just
dust. Thank you......

Try not to take a group photo with some of the subjects in the sun & some in the shade, if possible. Also try to have the sun to their backs so sun is not casting shadows across our subjects, or making them squint. When possible both you and the group should both be either in the shade or both in the sun. Play with the f stops (higher number; f8 f9 etc) to get everyone in acceptable focus. Regards....Bob

Try "Precision Camera Repair" a lot cheaper then the price of Sony service center. They have a set fee for most repairs.....

William seems to be on the right track with the suggestion of the use of HDR. You can take three exposures at once with bracketing; set camera to bracketing as follows;( +2, 0, -2 )then combine the three exposures with HDR software. That will give you the effect you see in that photo. Regards....Bob

Take it back; it should not have a yellow tint on the lcd when reviewing your shots...

A700 and cz24-70mm; in the future you can purchase a full frame and still use the 24-70mm on it.....I love my A700 it definitely competes evenly with canon & nikon dslr cameras....just returned from Sedona Az. and got excellent results with the 17-50mm f2.8 & 70-200mm f2.8. Buy the A700 and enjoy.

On a recent trip to Sedona the sensor on my A700 became comtaminated. What are the best retail sensor cleaners out on the market. Are there any no-no's when cleaning the sensor? Can I use static cleaners?

hi bob, i've owed sony dslr's for 2 yrs now. i started with a100, outgrew it and now own the a700 with sony lens 11-18mm w/a, 70-400mm 4-4.5 ssm, minolta 50mm 1.7, tami 17-50mm 2.8, tami 70-200 mm 2.8. i'm very happy with the 700's performance. my favorite lens is the 70-400 sony; it's a $1600.00 lens and worth every penny, the used minolta 50mm is a great portrait lens, honestly i like all my lens. a good place to go to do more research on sony dslr's is; dyxum.com it's a dedicated sony forum.

going to sedona in october, have a; 11-18mm wide angle, 17-55mm f2.8 wa, 70-200mm f2.8 & 70-400mm f4. i realize i'll be taking a lot of wildlife/landscape shots, does anyone have any suggestions.

Were you shooting at the wide mm (18) the photo seem elongated. Stand further back from your subject and shoot at 40-50mm. Try lowering the F stop (higher number) F8, F9, F10, etc; it will give you better DOF (depth of field) and cause more of the shot to be in focus. A higher F stop (lower number) F1.4 F2.8 F3.5 will focus on the subject (children) and cause the background to be blown out; blurred, out of focus. Other then that its a pretty good photo with a kit lens. It was mentioned already, the more you crop the fuzzier the photo will become. I am not familiar with that lens; does it have VR.

Try http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ best pricing that I have found; some items include free shipping.

Purchase either a filter that is made for wide angle lens, (should be in the title of the filter) or a slim polarizer. Try and compare compatibility charts between lens and lens filters some Internet sites offer this service. Or call b/4 you buy and ask salesman. But your best bet would be the slim polarizers. I own a B&W slim c/polarizer filter and use it on a 11-18mm lens with no signs of vignetting. Only problem is your lens cap will not fit on the filter but the filter comes with its own slim fit cap.

I am not a canon expert by far, but the T1i gives you more MP 15 compared to 12MP and higher ISO capabilities. You might want to check out other retailers like B&H Photo, Adorama, etc; try to get a camera with a USA warranty some Amazon sellers offer gray/after market products, which may only have an overseas warranty. Otherwise you may have to ship your camera overseas for warranty repair. You might want to buy a body only then build with individual lens, (better apertures, and so on).

This is now the sharpest lens I owe, shot the NYC skyline from New Jersey side of river in the evening hours, after 8:30pm to 9:30pm on A700, and I was very pleased with the results. Yes Grayham; filter thread is 77mm. I definitely recommend this lens.

Don't let anyone sway you, if you're happy with your results with sony equipment stick with it. At first I had the same experience when I told a salesman I shot with an A100. I still go to that store but now only to try out new equipment b/4 I buy somewhere else. I found a new retailer who is more customer orientated. I now own an A700 and a few decent sony lens, 11-18mm w/a, minolta 50mm 1.7, 70-200mm and 70-400mm. Find a new retailer who knows how to treat a customer. If you upgrade you would be very satisfied with the A700 (great camera).

Thanks Bill I ordered it today, and based on an email I rec'd from b&h it will be delivered tomorrow. I'm looking forward to giving it a workout. B&W are quality filters I also use Sony Carl Zeiss. I be traveling out to the sedona area for vacation and can't wait to put it to the test.
Thanks again....Bob
