Maybe they'll replace the red ring which fell off at no charge.

I asked that same question (my red ring has also fallen off), and the answer was, that they would have to both take the bottom apart to fix the real problem, and then also take the top apart to change the red ring. it would be a lot more expensive, almost x2. So I decided I did not need that anyway :)

  2.
That happend to my 24-105 last week too. I tested it on my 7D and a older 400D, both cameras gave an error.
I took it into a canon repair shop, they would get back to me with a quote in the beginning of this week. But luckily my home insurance will cover it, so I just hope they'll get it fixed soon.

  3.
I've been geo-tagging my photos since 2009, using a Holux m-241. What I like about it is, it's small (the size of a old film container) and it runs on a single AA battery (for approx. 12 hours). That means that I can have it in my pocket next to a phone or keys, and when travelling I can always buy a new battery, and don't rely on a power plug every night.
The only downside is, it's a little manuel work when uploading the photos to my laptop; I have to import the logfile from the Holux, import the photos and the I use GPSPhotoLinker to merge the two. And then I can import the photos to Aperture.
I'm on a mac, and the software from Holux is windows-only so I use the opensource BT747 (http://www.bt747.org).
Hope it helps!

  4.
I updated from a 350d to the 7D - and what a upgrade! I was debating a long time with my self either to wait for a 60D or to grab a 7D. I don't regret not waiting for the 60D, the 7D is a very nice camera. Image quality and overall feeling is great, the only thing I dislike a tiny bit is the physical size of the 7D. Its hard to be discreet at a wedding or on the street, but then again, it does a lot of things so much better than the 350d.
Perhaps you should rent a 7D for a weekend to try it, if that possible where you live.

    Great pictures from India!
I just came home from a trip to China, where I took a lot of people-pictures. I don't speak more than two words of chinese, so it was mostly a smile and pointing to my camera, when asking for permission to take pictures. Some didn't mind, but others turned their head away, and then I would put my camera down.

There is a lot of good stuff on the streets in the Chinese cities - so much is going on all the time. People selling food from their bikes or open kitchens, people playing cards and mahjong, sleeping security guards and crazy traffic! But you should also get out of the cities, or visit small cities in the rule areas, this was a great experience for us.

Have a fantastic trip!

  6.
Rachel, I was in the same situation as you are in now, a few years back. I had my eye on either Canon or Sigma - until I saw the prices. I the purchased a Peleng 8mm to my Canon 350d, and I have had a lot of fun using it. It was inexpensive compared to Canon or Sigma, but it's also 100% manual operated - no autofocus or anything.
I don't use my fisheye as much as I thought, because as Beuh also writes, it takes a lot of practice to make good photos with it. But when I see an oputunity to use it, it gets me good photos.
I have uploaded some of the photos using the fisheye to flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jens-peter/sets/72157608447566378/

  7.
I've also just upgraded, though from a XT, and had the same thoughts about a 60D or a 7D. I was at the shop last week, and felt the difference between the two. That and the better AF, better weather profing was the major factors in my purchase of a 7D. The only 'problem' I have had is, that it's much bigger then my XT, so it barely fits in my bad... Good thing it's christmast time soon :)

  8.
Me. Well, I don't need the 60D, my 350D still works; but I have been looking for a replacement almost since the 7D came. But I cannot figure out, if the extra price (25% here in Denmark) for the 7D is worth it for me. On one hand, I would like to have the best camera I can afford, but on the other hand, I don't want to spend extra for something that I don't think I'm getting value for.

  9.
Yes, as mentioned the Golden Temple. Also, visit Gion in the eastern part of town. You'll probably have a hard time missing the train station, but if you arrive by other transport than train, a visit to the station and perhaps Kyoto tower could also be interesting. To the south of the train station - perhaps 20 minutes (by train) is the Fushimi Inari-taisha temple, also very beautify. In downtown Kyoto there are the Nishiki Market that I also found interesting.
There is a lot to choose from - i was just looking through my pictures from last October, have a great trip!

Jens Peter.

Oh, and see if you can find an Onsen!

  10.
I'm also going to japan soon - next week :) I have compared prices, and found that prices in Japan and in Denmark are almost identical - the savings is about €20 (I looked at the Canon 100-400L lens), so I guess it could be even more expensive compared to prices in Sweden... Anyway, I'll try to see if I can find the large camerashops in Tokyo, just to see them.
Johannes; have a nice trip!

  11. You can also set the camera to "bulb", let the camera expose for what amount of time you wish, and when that time have expired, you can cover the lens so no light get through - I've used a thick piece of black plastic, and when that covers the lens, click the shutter button again to finish the exposure.

I've done this a few times before getting a remote. It works, but it's much easier with the remote :)

    Jens Peter.
