1.
The Zeiss ZF 35mm is my favourite lens I own. It's hard to put into words here, but the sheer 'life like' clarity of the lens is simply breathtaking at times. I could go on, but I won't.
Never tried the Voigtlander alas.
What I would say though, for the sheer quality of the images. It beats hands down anything I have ever seen on either a Nikon or Canon.

  2.
It's really good to read a good review of this camera. I do not think it is over priced. It all depends what you want to do with the camera. The image quality I have seen from this camera is simply outstanding. The best I have ever seen on a DSLR. Better than Canon.
From what I have seen on the net alone, the D3X seems to match or is not better than the Mamiya system.
I wish I could afford one, but it is very much a pro camera.
I'm sick and bored of Ken Rockwell and others bashing this camera. I honestly don't think it is over priced, it's a pro tool. Like you I'm more into using a camera at around 100 asa. I don't really shoot sports. In the meantime I'm more than happy with my D80!

  3. Well I'll just say I have owned 2 Nikon manual 50mm and I love them. But my Zeiss 50mm 1.4 wipes the floor with them as far as I'm concerned.

The new ZF are very different to the older Zeiss lens, though my experience. I do own older Zeiss as well.

For me it was money very well spent. I'm not just saying that, because it cost me an arm and a leg. The clarity is phenomenal. Real depth compared to anything I've seen on a Nikon or Canon.

  4. Hi,

Strange one this and I would ever so grateful if somebody could tell me what is going on.

I very simply shoot in both RAW and Jpg. My D80 for some strange reason just shoots 2 jpgs instead of a

    RAW and the Jpg.

I can't figure what is the problem. Is it possible I have pressed another option without realising it...or is my

    camera playing up?!

    Thanks.

  5. I've just got an Epson R2880. I did shop around and get a but paranoid that Canon might have something better after seeing this thread!

I mainly got the epson because of the quality of B/W.

I can't really say, I would have a problem for any home printer creating better results, I can't see it getting much better on the output side. What I would say though, is to change the matt/gloss black is a pain and uses ink.

But the end result is 100%.

  6. Never used an HP, but I have an 1290s A3+. I've had it for 4 years and it never clogged. This last year is the first time I have left printing on it. I was daft to leave it that long with the cartridges in, after about 3rd of a carbide everything was working 100% again.

So on the clogging front, I think that Epson is great. I've just got the R2880, so I can't really speak long term on that front. but very nice printer.

  7. Hi,

I was wondering if anybody here also owned the Epson R2880. I was a little alarmed at the amount of ink it has

used. Though it does state in the manual, that the first batch of inks will go down quickly for the printer to properly

    calibrate itself.

I'm just about to start my second batch.

Has anybody been through situation and if so, was your printer alot more economical the second time around?

    Thanks.

  8. I tried just about every panorama programme I could find about 18 moths ago. At times I needed to stitch up to around 40 jpg.

All I can say is PTGui won, by a very, very long way. Nothing came near to it, in my experience. No ghost images, the toning was 100% and very easy to use.

    Though there's one recommendation!

  9. Hi,

I used to use an Epson 1290 and I found the results I got from Ilford Galerie were far suppier than Epsons own brand

paper. I tried most if not all of Epsons paper.

I was wondering what people on this board are using to achieve maximum results?

I've been using Galerie tonight and the results (as of yet!) are not as good on this printer. I will of course be buying some

    Epson tomorrow.

But I was wondering what other people might recommend. I am printing both colour and black and white.

    Thanks.

  10. A new printer was the last thing on my mind before I started looking through Epson's website last night. Very

impressive to say the least. Though for price I'm more eyeing up the R2400.

My present printer is the Epson 1290s.

I really have read alot of reviews, but I can't seem to find any comparisons against other manufacturer's. Nothing

    apart form the odd comment.

So simple question, for the home user..what do you think is the best b/w printer on the market at the moment?

...and no, I don't want to be swapping around alot of Lyson inks! I've tried that already...I also like colour.

    Thanks.

  11. Got it straight away!!

Many thanks, I was looking in the wrong area..plus I couldn't seem to find anything in the instructions.

Thanks for that everybody. It's all been a massive help.

I really love the Capture NX. I've just used Adobe Elements upto now.

  12. On the earlier version you have the option were you can change the white balance, sharpness, saturation e.t.c. on the NEF files.

I can't seem to find the option on the new version. In the old version it was done in the browser..the information is there, but you can't change it. It's static.

I'm just wondering if the new version is more aimed at the D300, D3 market. Not my D80?

  13. Thanks I have got it up and working. The line has gone!

Maybe I'm missing something and I really have tried at this, but I can't mess around with the RAW settings like on the earlier version.

    I use a D80. Any ideas?

I have done a search and it should be compatable.

  14. Hi Matt,

It's version 1.0.1, The line just appears in the same place over the editing space. It does not appear over the editing menu e.t.c.

I'm not sure what display drivers are?!

I've only just downloaded it, so everything should be up to date?

    Thanks.

  15. Hi,

Simple question, but I'm not sure about a simple answer. I have a copy of

Capture NX (trial) and everytime I crank it up an annoying line appears right in

the middle of the work space. It is there the whole time, until I close the

    programme again.

Does anybody have any experience of this and how to resolve it?

    Thanks.

  16. Hi,

I love the quality of the 24-105 L lens. The L series of lens must be the

sharpest on the market. I have used this lens on a 5D..but to buy a 5D and the

lens is really stretching my budget.

There are lots of full 12 MP JPG's on the net of the 5D 24-105mm. But I have

yet to see any of the 450D with the 24-105mm.

Does anybody know of a link..or have you any first hand experience yourself?

Bascially if I can get the clarity and sharpness of the 5D but using the 450D.

    That would make my day.

..and yes..I of course know the 5D is full frame e.t.c.
