1.
My thoughts exactly Tom. My location isn't quite so perfect, just has one huge patio window that can either be camera left or camera right. I'm considering using it as my main source and compliment it with a gridded beauty dish on a lowest setting for the hair light and a white California sunbounce for fill (which is the only gear I'm down to these days). I'm sort of ambivalent about renting out a Profoto kit like I have the last few times. I get too focused on trying to utilize everything I got to get my moneys worth . So maybe limited myself will get yield better that normal results.
Igor, could not find the credits for the photog. However, I figure they'd be most unresponsive.

 2.
Photos from Scotch & Soda 2011 Lookbook

I have a client requesting this sort of look and I was wondering if anyone could help me reverse engineer the lighting setup here. There is certainly a window on the right and the hair light seems like it could be from another small window up above, behind the model. For fill, I'm guessing no more than a large soft reflector?
Our location wouldn't have the window in back, so what would be a safe bet of mimicking that look---small hair light? beauty dish with a grid?
I'm also curious about is how to get that sort of skin tone shade.

Any suggestions appreciated =)

 3.
Getting ready to do a lookbook shoot this weekend for a designer. A bit worried since I haven't seen much improvement in my work in the past year and I swear I'm about to crack if don't start getting even a little closer to the results I'm dying for.
Anyway, enough about me my artistic plateau that no one cares about. When I was digging the other night for some inspiration, I stumbled upon Rankin Photography based out in the UK, some of you may be familiar already?
After seeing this, I knew this was the quality of light I wanted and I knew I wasn't going to get near it with any of my Alienbees gear (no offense to Alienbees) without a lot of post, if even. If anyone wants to argue that, I'm open ears.
My first guess was a broncolor ringflash with a soft diffuser, but since the shot is so evenly wrapped with light my second guess was a huge parabolic that I can't afford.

Today, I went ahead and reserved my rental for a 5' Profoto Giant Silver 150 (closest thing I could get that was available for the date I needed) with matching heads, stands, sandbags, and a 1 stop diffuser to soften the light. I must say thats the quickest 200 bucks I ever spent. Going to have to sell the Xbox maybe =|

So with that all said,... comments, suggestions, feedback, hate mail, alternative guesses?
