1.
What about storing/providing photos on a digital photo frame and providing that to customers? Although I've never had one or really been interested in them, I was just looking at one online that Kodak offers. It has a touch screen, holds 16000 photos, and photos are emailed to it via wi-fi. Koday PULSE Digital Frame / 7 in. $129.00.

 2.
Hi Susan. I used smugmug for the first year and loved it because it was very easy to customize. However, I found out that Websense (an internet filter of sorts that lots of businesses use) classifies smugmug as "Personal Data Storage" and blocks smugmug sites. Therefore, I changed to photo reflect (www.photoreflect.com). It's only $9/month. It's template based which limits some creativity, but it passes the websense blocks. I figure if I'm going to have a site, i'd like people to be able to see it (even if they are supposed to be working). I've been using them for the last 2 years and have been very happy.

 3.
I currently use PhotoReflect. The cost is $9/month, easy to learn and easy to use. I was with Smugmug for two years, but found that many people couldn't view my smugmug pages because websense (a filtering program used by many companies) prevented access because it classifies smugmug as 'personal data storage'. Even though I like smugmug best, I want my customers to be able to see my site wherever they want to look at it (even if it's at work!) I also like that I pay monthly and can cancel at anytime.

 4.
I used to be with SmugMug and the only reason I left is that I found out Websense (A website blocking program widely used by businesses and governments) views smugmug sites as 'personal data storage' and therefore blocks the content. Although I am in agreement that people at work should be working, the reality is many people look at my site from work. I want them to be able to see it. Not get a message from websense stating that my site is blocked. Therefore, I went with Photoreflect.com. Basically the same service as smugmug, but websense doesn't block it. Hope that helps.

 5.
I have been asked several times to do 'print-on-site' projects. Usually at social functions (ie. company events, civic activities, etc). What I've found after several of these events is that I don't make much money on the events themselves. Usually between $45-60/hour after all expenses (including paying 25% of gross sales to a friend's teenage son who does the downloading, printing and sales).
What I do find, is that I get alot of contact with potential customers for weddings, family portraits, commercial work, etc. On average, I'll book one event (wedding, sweet 16, etc) and at least a family portrait session for each day I do an on-site printing event. Therefore, I look at these events as more of a marketing event rather than a big money maker. I tried once to direct people to my website after the event and I sold nothing. I took over 100 portraits and had only 14 hits on that gallery. I would not do that again. Hope this helps.

 6.
My question is why get tangled up with cost, licensing, rights, useage etc if you aren't a pro and aren't planning to start a business? Unless the hotel is a Hilton/Hyatt/Ritz Carlton, just consider it a compliment that they like your work, let your wife take credit for the contribution and keep enjoying photography as a hobby. If you really think you should get paid, sell the photos outright for just enough to take your wife out for a nice dinner and brag about how good you are to the guys. And I agree with John....your wife is most definately not removed from 'this'. The result will someday, somehow, reflect on her either positively or negatively.

 7.
As a promotional tool, I have put together an attractive, portable floor display that holds 15 of my own framed 8x10 photos. I'm currently putting it in high trafffic locations within businessess, office buildings, etc. in hopes of driving potential clients to my website to purchase prints, book my services or just to say that my work has been on display at "ABC Corporate Offices". I promote it as a 'traveling photography exhibition" and it stays in one location for 2-3 weeks.

My question is: If I were to able to place 3 or 4 of these displays in a single location featuring the work of multiple photographers and a biography/contact information for each photographer, would you pay to display your work in this exhibit? Printing the 8x10 and framing it would be included in the price. All frames would be the same to preserve the asthetics of the exhibit. The price would be $125 to display 5 photos.

Thank you in advance for your positive and negative feedback, questions, comments and concerns.
