  1. Robert: Great suggestion about the plastic bag-I like to carry a few ziplocks in my equipment bag for bad weather.

I just bought an old but working Konica Auto Reflex TC with a 50 mm lens and a lot of accessories on eBay for under $14. I plan on using it for hiking, etc, and if it gets wet I won't worry about it.

    Have a great time.

  2. Farrah: I used to photograph show horses and other animals in Pennsylvania about 25 years ago. I used a flash when shooting a horse and he jumped straight up with all 4 feet. I learned the hard way.

If you can spend some time with the pro, by all means do it-get just watch for little tricks of the trade that he has learned by experience.

Keep your own wision and eye, but never pass on an opportunity to learn from someone with experience. Even a lousy photographer can be a good learning experience-what not to do.

Be patient, enjoy yourself, be happy you have found an area you really enjoy.

  3. I live in SE Pennsylvania, wear cotton long pants, old army jungle boots and a hat to make up for my long-gone hair.

Go light, carry water, snack. I keep my non-photo stuff in large ziplock bags in my equipment bag and a light but sturdy tripod on a shoulder strap.

I always carry a usable knife, usually a small fixed blade camping knife. just for GP.

Spray pants cuffs, boots with bug repellant to keep ticks off, check yourself well when you get home-they will get you if ya don't watch out!

Enjoy the summer-go out again in fall and winter, too.

  4. Thanks for the responses.

The Canonet was delivered yesterday-everything seems to be working, but I am making the battery fit (Got 8 675's for $6 at CVS), and hope to try the meter today. I have been using tha camera manually with my old Gossen Luna Lux meter.

It's very interesting to get back to old methods again-I learned on an old Kodak Pony nearly 50 years ago.

The Konica shipped yesterday, and should be here next week.

  5. Hi!

I just bought 2 very different 35mm cameras online, and I want to know your

experiences with them. I haven't even received them yet-they are both "in the

mail", so I can't be specific about them

1; Canon Canonet QL 19-I used to own a Leica IIIf many years ago, and I know

this is not in the same league, but they seem like a solid little RF camera. Any

    experience, thoughts, problems, etc?

2;Konica Autoreflex TC. I wanted something simple and handy, and these seem to

be a good choice. (Got the camera, 50mm lens, flash unit, case, filter, carry case

for under $15, supposedly all working.)

Again, any experience, problems to watch for, etc?

Thanks. I like digital, but still have to think about it. These will be for fun only.

  6. Mike: Back in the stone age, I bought a used Pony 35. It was my first adjustable aperture/shutter speed camera, and i was about 12, so it was around 1960. I learned a lot on that camera.

several years ago, I bought another, and just found it again on a bookshelf. It's an 828, still in its factory box. Forgot I even had it till Iread your post.

Enjoy your old Kodak, and thanks for reminding me about both of mine.
