If we're talking anecdotal evidence, mine focuses perfectly and is tack sharp from wide open, for what it's worth.

<p>I think he means with the VR engaged—i.e. not waiting for it to "clunk" off before switching the camera off.

Also bear in mind that the SB-600s don't have PC ports, so if you ever plan on moving away from CLS and onto Pocket Wizards/other wireless triggers then you'll need to also factor in the cost of a hotshoe-to-PC adaptor for each SB-600 that you have.

Rebecca: Nope, Sigma's acronym for that is "DC". DG means, according to Sigma, that it's designed for both digital and film.

Garrison: it's the mode, not the powerラthe options are, I believe, "TTL", "M", and "--".

It will meter and you'll be able to manual focus. However, manually focusing with the D40's viewfinder, especially at f/1.8, isn't exactly fun.
