Yes, no flash ever for dance performances (it can blind them for one thing, and very distracting for the audience - so not allowed), so I often shoot at ISO 3200 to get some shutter speed and sometimes DOF. f2.8 @ 1/200th sec., so it had to be at the peak of the jump when she almost stopped moving.
  2. Especially with dance, which often has hard side lighting and very high contrast (dark background) and everything happens so quickly you don't get a chance to get the best angle. In this case she was at the peak of her jump when she was right in front of him, so ...

  3. About the text - I know it's a distraction, but i have to protect the dancers from having this image used by others without their permission and putting the text over an important part of the image does a pretty good job of keeping anyone from snagging it, something which I gather is common on the web. Maybe I'm overdoing it?
