I think that one of things that makes this such a great photo is that part of the backround is brighter than the flowers, making your eye look past the obvious subject. This, combined with the beautiful color harmony, give the photo an interesting sense of depth.

Very good. Quite sharp and nice placment in the frame. It would be nice if you could get a picture showing the bird in context. Perhaps it at a flower, or maybe you could get a backround? I've read that you can take an out of focus picture of trees, etc., print it, and place in just behind where you know the bird will come (like a feeder). It might reflect the flash, but maybe you could angle it so it doesn't. You would then have complete control over the backround and it would be illuminated.

What equipment did you use? (I assume that you used some flash setup with a long lens?)
