  2. Thanks for that advise--however I did what you said and there is no dpi setting that i can see. When I do what you said all I see is Adapter, Monitor, Troubleshoot, Color Management, GeForce 8600 Gs.

There is no way in those menus to change the DPI.

Rene, I thought about that, but thats more trouble and money--you see when I bought this it came with vista and so some of the payment had to be included for the vista and the back up CD---I would like to avoid going back to XP if it can be helped. I changed the resolution to all of the settings and checked each one. I can not find where the DPI is. Some of the photos are TIF as well.

I really appreciate everyone helping. I emailed Nikon and microsoft and waiting for their answers. I would love to go to Mac, but thats a bit more money- maybe when some of my photos actually sell-lol.

To Eric--this monitor is a 19" HP, wide screen--the pictures looked fine on this monitor using XP.

This is so frustrating, keep them coming--I'm trying each thing--Thanks

  3. All I do is put the card in the reader and open it up in the windows viewer to see the photos before I play around with it. on the XP it worked perfectly, on this one not so good. So the viewer is the same but the OS is different. The monitor's resolution is perfect and my screen looks crystal clear. The photo is above, untouched, except the border of course. On my lap top which is XP it looks fine. I don't like using the laptop for it is only for my writings. How do I change the viewers default resolution?

thanks again and keep them coming. Much appreated.

  4. 2272x1704--however that is not the problem. When I had the same pictures on the XP two days ago, it looked fine-but when I got the new pc with vista on it it looked dark and grainy. I took it to Future shop and they tested everything. On their screen, running vista they had the same problem, but when they tried the same photos on their laptop and pc running XP, it looked perfect. The camera is fine and set properly, but the night photos are dark and grainy on the vista. I hope every one got all this. I am trying to edit them so I can put them up and this is really frustrating. Thanks for all the help. The people at future shop said that it has do with the vista and Nikon not being compatible and they suggested that either I find a codec to view the photos properly or go back to XP.

    thanks again

  5. I have a Nikon 4500. I just bought a new computer with vista on it and an HP 17inch screen. However now my

photos from my camera looks very very grainy. Someone told me that the nikon does not work well with vista and

that I need to download a codec. I've been searching everywhere for it. Why does my pgotos look that way? Please

    help. Thank you.
