Thanks Gleb.

I think I made my decision. I'm going to go with a 27" iMac. At $1699 it fits in my budget, will be large enough for clients to view, and heck it doesn't hurt to have another iMac hanging around the studio. Plus, I know absolutely nothing about TVs and projectors, but I do know my way around a Mac, as I use them everyday. Thanks everyone for all your input, as always I really appreciate the feedback on this forum!

Steve, definitely some food for thought! Thanks so much for your insight. My plan is to have an area (about 8'x8') in the corner of the studio with a couch and a couple of comfy chairs and a coffee table. So maybe you're right in saying that I don't need anything over 30". Thanks for posting those links! I really appreciate all the feedback guys!

I just recently changed my prices as well, but I don't think an explanation is necessary. If someone asks you in a sales meeting then I think its okay to offer them your thoughts, but I wouldn't just put it out on the web for everyone to read. New potential clients may see it and be turned off.

Thanks guys! I considered the large apple monitor, but the largest they have is 27" and I'm looking for something that would be around 46". Do you know if you can calibrate an LCD tv with a calibration device such as colormunki? I guess while I'm on that subject, has anyone used colormunki, and what are your thoughts? Thanks!

I'm currently in the process of building a new studio and I'm wondering what people's thoughts are about ways to show clients their images in the sales meeting. Right now I own a small studio and I show a slideshow and lightroom presentation on my 21 "iMac. In the new studio I plan on using the iMac to run a projector, lcd, plasma, or something else. I'm looking for input to see if anyone has suggestions about what I should use. My main concerns are that I want everything calibrated, and I want my images large (maybe 20x30ish), and I want them to look exactly how they do on my iMac. My budget is around $2,000 and the space is large, so there are no real size limitations. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much guys for your input! I think I'm going to go with the Vagabond II and purchase an extra battery just in case, because I'm going to be running the thing for about 8 hours, but I can't have it die on me in the middle of the day. Thanks again!

I'm looking for some advice about what to do for power. I'm doing on-site family portraits and I need to run my Epson Artisan 810 printer, but I don't have access to power. Here is a short list of other issues I have:
-I can't have my vehicle close by, so a power inverter isn't an option.
-I can't use a generator because they're too expensive and too loud.
-My budget is below $500 (preferable below $300)

I was thinking about the Paul Buff Vagabond II as an option, because then I could also use the unit at other times when I'm using my strobes outside, but will that work to power my Epson printer? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Thanks guys. My macs are 21" & 24" both 4gb RAM, maybe I need that extra boost in RAM. I also usually have other applications such as itunes, etc open at the same time. If it keeps up I guess I'll just have to sit on hold with Adobe waiting for a response from some guy in India sitting in a cubical!

Thanks Scott. Love the Hendrix reference!

I upgraded from Lightroom 2.7 to Lightroom 3 and it just keeps crashing on me. The times it consistently crashes is when I am in the Slideshow module. If I put a slideshow together it will start and the images start to lose time and then it just crashes. It has also crashed during other various uses too. The problem occurs on my iMac (10.5.8) at home and my iMac (10.6.x) at the studio. I reinstalled LR3 on my home mac and it is still doing the same thing. I just cannot trust the new LR3 at this point. Anyone else having similar problems, and does anyone know how to rectify the issue? Thanks so much!

Thanks Jen. I'm definitely not ready for that this year (or shall I say for the next school year), but it is something I may be interested in the future. I will have to make sure that I am good and ready to enter into a venture like this. :)

Thanks Susan. I'll definitely look into that one too!

Dave, thanks again for sharing your knowledge and insight! This is definitely a venture that I will need to think more about.

Thanks David, I guess that gives me a little idea about what I'm up against and whether I think its worth the hassle or not.

If I were interested in trying to get a contract with a school (I would be interested in a small school right now), when do think would be a good idea to try to meet with them to get a contract? Early summer?

Do you currently have any school contracts? And if so, what do you think about the shooting schools? Is it a real good money maker, or just a lot of hassle? Thanks!

Thanks John for your input. I don't think the me.com will work for me because my lightroom library is very large, and that is primarily what I am working with out of both locations. I appreciate your help!

My goal is to have two iMacs that are completely synced together. One iMac will be at my home, while the other will be at my studio. I would like to be able to go home and work on images in Lightroom, writing documents, etc. I thought I could probably travel back and forth with a lacie rugged drive, but how can I keep every single item on both computers in sync? Is it possible to do with an external hard drive? Thanks guys for your help!

I do not currently have a contract with a school, and quite frankly am not interested right now with what sounds like a pretty big headache. I do, however, have a strong interest in shooting proms. I've shot a couple proms with a larger size company in Los Angeles. I have since relocated to Massachusetts and would really like to shoot proms here. There is just something I really like about them. The kids are usually really happy, everyone is looking the best they've ever looked, and they want to spend money! So my question is, does anyone think it is a realistic goal to try to pursue prom photography, or do you think that every school has a contract with a big photography outlet that will also be shooting the prom in addition to everything else they shoot for the school?
Thanks for your help guys!

How the heck to you get a Santa account? I'm thinking I might be interested next year.

I have kind of an off-topic question that maybe some of you will be able to answer if this thread is still alive.

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a couple new dye sub printers for my photography business and I couldn't really find any updated info about new dye subs on the market today. Here is what I need to know:
-Is dye sub still the way to go for fast printing on-the-go, or was it just a passing fad?
-I'm looking to spend about $1000 a piece, and I think I'm going to buy 2 to start, any suggestions about brands/models?
-I definitely know that I need to print 5x7, but is asking for an 8x10 dye sub in that price range too much to ask for?
-Do all dye subs come with LCD screens for quick cropping?
-What does the paper and toner cost, and is it readily available or is it hard to find?

Thanks so much guys! I appreciate all the help.

Hi,
I'm just getting into baby photography, and my wife is 7 mos pregnant and I was wondering if anyone had any input about which baby prop/positioner to buy?

I see that at http://www.backdropoutlet.com they have 2 different ones, this 3 way foam one http://www.backdropoutlet.com/3-WAY-FOAM-BABY-POSER/productinfo/EX110/, and this 2 piece one http://www.backdropoutlet.com/2-PC-BABY-POSER/productinfo/PR9645/.

Does anyone have any opinions about either one, or are there better props out there? Thanks for the help!
