1.
Hi Matt, I normally shoot on the lowest ISO setting available, but it looks like this time I forgot to set it and it fired with the ISO on auto, f/8 and 1/30. Camera was on a tripod set on timer so that I could be included in the photo with my wife. I used a Vivitar 285HV set to 1/16. If you start zooming on the blue chair, you will notice the graininess on the cushions. Your assistance would be great, this would allow me to take better portraits. The camera that I used before was a D60 but now I am using a D90 paired with a 18 - 105mm lens. I have attached a copy of the picture for your reference. Thanks.

00XpRM-309941684.thumb.jpg.c5b3dac75d14acc716b808c8980da078.jpg

  2.
I was wondering how photographers are able to take crystal clear pictures using a flash. Is it all because they use f/2.8 lenses and not any of the variable aperture lenses out there. I am trying to take a photo using the lights of a christmas tree as the main light and use a hotshoe flash which I can take off the camera as a fill light. When I tried this the last time the picture was grainy. Your assistance on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

  3.
Te everyone that has given me advise...I thank you so much for all. I guess I really have to make a decision as to how I want to make use of the lens and if this is only to be used indoors or outdoors as well...I am sorry I havent been able to read through all the responses.

  4.
I am looking into getting some family portrait pictures done in a home stodio using a vivitar flash mounted on a stand with a shot through umbrella. I wanted to know if anyone can give me their recommendations on which of these 3 lenses would be best for my needs:
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM
Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF
Currently I use a Nikon D60.
I know that both Nikons will not auto focus on my D60 while the Sigma will and I know that being a Nikon forum, I will get more people telling me that either Nikons are the better buy. I would like to see what the critics have to say about these lenses.

  5. I have tried to read around about what I am about to ask. I am trying to mate my D60 which I have had for about 6

months now with a good and relatively inexpensive flash which I can use on the camera with bounce capability and

off the camera with some type of wireless controller. Can someone please help me in this quest of mine. Also, one

day I saw another shooter using a D200 and he put a flashlight looking flash against the wall and was triggering it

wirelessly - does anyone know what that was and were I could read about it. Thanks in advance for all the help.

  6. Thanks Bruce & Ted...I will make sure that before I purchase any gray market equipment, I ask to see if there are any warranties or guarantees. Currently I am looking at getting a flash...I am still undecided whether I will get a Nikon SB-600 or another make. I need to do extensive research before spending on this...the flash wont be used that much I think...but you never know...thanks nonetheless for all the insights.
  7. Sorry for the ignorance. I am relatively new to Digital SLR and am slowly building my equipment. I have a Nikon D60

with kit lenses and am looking at expanding my lenses and getting a flash as well as a diffuser and even a flash

trigger so that I can set up the flash away from the camera. What I am seeing in eBay and other sites is that they

are selling items which are new, used, refurbished and even "GRAY MARKET." Can anyone enlighten me on what

exactly does gray market mean and what are the impications of getting gray market equipment. I would really

appreciate the assistance in this matter.
