Thanks Mark

I have a Mamiya 645 200mm f2.8 manual focus lens that I would like to be able to use with my Canon 5D. Is anyone aware of a mount adapter that would allow me to do this? What would be the potential/actual shortcomings?

Has anyone had any experience using the Markins M10 ballhead with either the Pentax or Mamiya 645 cameras?

Does anyone have experience using a Gorillapod Focus tripod with a medium format (Mamiya 645afd) camera?

BTW, I use a 949 scanner ... and a 31 meg digital back ... and a 39 meg digital back.
Marc- In a perfect world (at least my perfect world) I'd be doing what you're doing. I switched back to film precisely for the reason that you state. Do you have any opinion regarding the 848 or 646?

I'm currently shooting with a Mamiya 645 afd and then scanning my negatives through the Nikon Super Coolscan
9000. I shoot primarily landscapes, city-street scenes, and portraits (not professionally). The scanning
process is obviously very time consuming on a medium format file, even on an up to date computer. I've been
looking into purchasing a refurbished Phase One P30 digital back, although even if I purchased one I will still
continue to also shoot film. The crop factor of the digital back is not an issue to me as the frame size is
still substantially larger than my Canon 5D, which presently seems to be gathering dust. Has anyone had a chance
to compare the quality of the scanner to the back?

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond and suggest solutions. I have since resolved the issue (I hope). Although I had already removed the film, I tried pressing the mid roll wind up button on the bottom side of the camera. The camera came back to life. I later spoke to Pentax tech support and was informed that this freezing up in mid-roll is not a totally uncommon occurrence. Again, thank you for your help.

While shooting with my Pentax 645, the camera suddenly shut down in the middle of a roll of film. "Err" was
displayed on the LCD. The Pentax users manual is of little help, informing me that my camera may be defective. In
any case, I removed the film and then removed the batteries. I re-inserted the batteries, but I still have the
same "err" message. The camera is essentially dead. I assume that there are a number of possible problems here,
but are there any things that I can do myself to try to remedy the situation or at least figure out what the
problem is? Thank you

Thank you for the feedback. I truly appreciate it. I called Mamiya tech support today and they told me that although the focusing screen was recommended, it wasn't a necessity despite what they say on their website.

I recently purchased a 645afd on ebay and have since purchased a number of
manual lenses to use with it. The Mamiya web site states that I "must" use
Microprism Type C - for Non-AF 645 Lenses focusing screen when using manual
lenses in stop down metering mode. Is it really imperative to use this screen
and why? If I "must" use this screen will I be able to use it with the af lenses?
Using tripod ring to level camera

I just began using a canon 300mm f2.8L IS lens mounted to my gitzo/3531, markins m20 ballhead, wimberley sidekick combination for shooting birds in flight. I level the camera by loosening the tripod collar and rotating the camera body in the collar- then re-tighten the collar screw. Thus far this seems to work OK.
I'm wondering what added benefit, if any, would be achieved by adding the gitzo 5121 levelling base?
