  1. <p>I like the idea of the like, neutral, don't like system. I'm personally going to the 4,5,6, system with 7's reserved for anything that is just over the top cool. I rarely give 3's and in hind sight I will never give another. They serve no constructive purpose and are a source to many of discouragement. As another idea, regardless of the system current or 3 rating, it would be nice that if a person rated a picture low anonymously, they would have to check a box or boxes like, composition, tonality, exposure, saturation, haven't had my coffee this morning...etc. That way the person getting a low rating would at least get some constructive feed back. I get that not everyone is going to like every picture I or someone else posts. That's the nature of the beast. I'm ok with that, but some feed back would be beneficial. On a side note, to Josh and the rest of the people that admin this site. I give you a 7/7. It's still the best photo site of it's type on the net. <br>

    Best Wishes,<br>

  2. <p>Hi Brittany,<br>

There are a couple (probably more) advantages to RAW,<br>

    1. It is a lossless format as opposed to JPEG's. that means as you open and work with them the original data is never lost. JPEG's deteriorate over time as you open and work with them.<br>

    2. Raw files contain all the original data and give you a lot more control over the finished image.<br>

Granted, if you want to share your photo's via a disk or the web your going to need to convert to JPEG. I would suggest doing this as a copy (save as) and leaving the original RAW file intact for your archive. Generally I only convert the pictures I want to share.<br>

  3. <p>Hi Steve,<br>

I just faced the same frustration and this is what I concluded. CS4 is a great processing tool. Elements is a good processesor, combined with a good organizor and sharing tool Even within LR2 your not able to create a savable/shareable slide show. You can however export the pictures to a PDF (in LR2) which allows you to send multiple pictures for sharing as a PDF. The other option is to create your own in Powerpoint(or equivalent), but I found this method really time consuming and the result mediocre. I have read on other forum posts here in PN that there are some good 3rd party options available for a reasonable $$. Hope that helps.</p>

  4. Lou Ann Aepelbacher, a PN Photographer I greatly admire has a great little blip regarding this in her Biography that fits this to a tee. "An amateur photographer was invited to dinner with friends, and he took along a few pictures to show to them. The hostess looked at the photos and commented, "These are very good! You must have a good camera." The photographer didn't make any comment, but as he was leaving to go home, he said, "That was a really delicious meal! You must have some very good pots." Loved it when I read it. All credit to Lou Ann.
  5. This looked so familiar, kind of. So there I was with my brand new xsi, sitting on some rocks on the Sea of Cortez. I decided I needed to change the lens and set my camera down on my back pack. The pack was on a slight incline. I went to get up, bumped the damn pack and it was all over but the wailing. The camera dislodge and took a short trip into a very small, yet very receptive tidal pool, submerging half the camera and lens. After I sent it back to Canon, I waited a week and was told it was beyond repair. The happy ending is I love my new 40D.
  6. I have a 40D that came with the Kit 28-135 and I love it ,great lens. I supplemented that with a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4. Found I wanted something a little wider for landscapes and a little faster for low light and the Sigma fit the bill both in function and price. I use them both frequently. For me, and I am strictly an amateur, this combo has worked well.
  7. I had an xsi, ended up having a mishap (ow) with it and decided on the 40D as the replacement. I really liked the xsi. I love the 40D. Better built, easier to use in the creative modes, and more substantial. No noticeable difference in image quality, they are both great. Based on build and function I would steer you to the 40D.
