  1. I seem to be always asking for tips and things but today I am happy to say that I am able to contribute something. In

case someone is having problems understanding shutter speed and aperture and how they relate to one another as I

have had in the past, here is a great website that puts it right in front of you. This site helped me understand how

adjusting my aperture down a stop or two and also adjusting my shutter speed down or up would give me different

effects in my photos. Again, it is a great tool if for no other reason than to play around. So enjoy and for everyone

who already knew about this site my apologies for any duplication in postings.

  2. Maria,

I have been shooting weddings for 4 years and do very well at it. My question was more about adjusting my aperature at 24mm to 2.8 and not being able to adjust it at 2.8 for any other focal length (i.e., 2.8 at 50mm etc.). I have been shooting with fixed lenses with the exception of my Sigma telephoto which goes up to 300mm - range is 4 - 5.6. I would never attempt to take it down to 2.8 because I know it won' t go there. I was more looking for information from anyone who has used a Sigma 24 - 135 2.8-4.5. I have a pentax 50-135 2.8 which works well, but the one I am discussing here is one I was going to try. And FYI, I don't and never have used any equipment I am not familiar with for weddings or any other photograhphy events.

  3. I have a K100D digital and I just purchased a Sigma 24-135 F2.8-4.5. I find that I

can only adjust my shutter speed when I have the flash off. If I try with the flash

on whether it be on camera or my Pentax 360 it still will only allow me to set my

shutter speed up to 1/180 of a sec. Any ideas why this happens? Also I noticed

that I can only set my aperature down to 2.8 at the 24mm setting. I am doing a

wedding in a few weeks and want to use this lens, any comments on this issue

would be most helpful. Thanks, Sheila

  4. I am using two Pentax digital cameras - ist DL (my backup), K100D Super (my

main), I was told that you should set your shutter speed to be equal or greater

than the focal length of the lens you are using. However, what was not elaborated

on was - should you be using the focal length you are using to take the shot or

the total focal length of the lens? And under what conditions is this to be done? I

know this may be a stupid question, but I am still learning - and as Denzel

Washington said in Philadelphia, explain it to me like I am a 5-year old LOL.

    Thanks for your help.

  5. I currently have a Pentax 360 which I love - I am using basically lighting equipment - umbrella - softbox etc. I will be taking my lighting equipment with me to Wisconsin for taking portraits at the reception but the church has lots of windows and since the wedding is at 2:00PM CT, it should be lit nicely. The other photos will be taken by the lake so shouldn't be a problem there either. I have used my flash with no problem for other weddings, setting it on P-TTL. But I have heard so much I thought I would ask. My main lens is 28 - 135 F2.8 - 4. I will also be using my 50mm 1.4.
  6. I am using two pentax digital cameas - ist DL and K100D Super. I am shooting a

wedding in about 4 weeks. I have done several but this time, since I have heard so

much about the Pocket Wizard I am thinking of purchasing one. I have a few

questions, 1. Do I really need one and if so, how will it benefit me and finally,

which one do you recommend and finally is it true I need to purchase two one that

transmits and one that receives. Thank you for your input.

  7. I live in Colorado where Pentax is located and we have not heard any rumors of any kind here. I just purchased a new 50-135mm lens at my loal Wolf Camera and he made no mention of Pentax going anywhere. I would think that if they were going out of business we would know it here first.
  8. Hi - I have been doing photography for about 2 years. I have been asked to take

graduation photos of a kindergarten class but I am not sure about a few things. I

can stand anywhere I wish. And it is my intention to ask the teacher handing out

the awards on stage to turn towards me and have the kids do the same so I can

capture the shots. However, my problem is what is the best way to print them

off. I have two options, one is to take the pictures and print them off at the

graduation (there are 80 kids), and the other is to have the parents sign a sheet

with their name and address and send them to them. What would you suggest.

This is a private school so I am doing this without cost to anyone, hoping in doing

this I will be able to expand my client base. What do you suggest and if you have

any suggestions on what lens I should shoot with and at what shutter

speed/aperature that would be helpful as well.
