  1. I need some quick info/advise. I have a crop body (Canon 40D). I need to take

some individual shots of employees in an office setting. There will be natural

lighting from windows and I have a constant light and 5-1 reflector I can take along

    if needed. I have a 85 f/1.8 prime lens, a 17-85IS 4-5.6, and a 70-200 f/2.8.

I also will be shooting a 5-6 person group shot. Question...should I use the 85

f/1.8 with natural lighting for the individual head/shoulder shots? Then maybe the

17-85 for the group shot? Any advise on settings and lighting with what I have to

work with? Thanks To All You Pro's for helping us beginners out!

  2. Shooting with a Canon 40D. I shoot my indoor shots in my studio with continuios

lighting. At times shoot outdoors as well. Question is which lens (not neccessarily

Canon) would be best for shooting larger group shots such as 5-10 family

    subjects? I currently have 17-85IS 4-5.6, 85mm f/1.8, and a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8

Will my 17-85 be enough with the larger group sizes, Any suggestions?

  3. Thank you Andre, that was very helpful. I am still what one would consider a "rookie" and when I come across a decent deal on lens I want to get input before just buying on impulse. Again, thank you!
  4. I use a 40D. Which of the following will be more beneficial for me lens wise?

    Sigma 30 f/1.4

    Cannon 50 f/1.4

    Canon 85 f/1.2L or Canon 85 f/1.8 (which ever I find first)

I shoot a lot of indoor portraits as wll as outdoor.

    I also have a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 and Cannon 17-85IS

    Thanks!

  5. I am a beginner and need some input from those who use a 40D. I have an

opportunity to buy a nice 17-55IS lens. My ? is...should I or not? I currently have

    the EF-S 17-85 1:4-5.6IS and a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 and a 50mm f/1.4. From what

you have seen in quality of pic's taken, should I sell the 17-85 and buy the 17-55

f/2.8? This would be my walk around lens.

  6. As I am considering purchasing the 50 f/1.4 I have been doing my homework

before buying and keep reading that this lens is considered a "low light" lens. If I

am shooting indoor with studio constant lights would I not need this and would it

be over kill on the lighting?

  7. Ok pro's. Currently I have the 17-85IS lens on my 40D. I want something a little

crisper if ya will in shooting portraits with studio lighting but I also want some

what of a everyday walk around lens. So what would you suggest bewtween

these choices or would ya suggest selling the 17-85IS and buying two of the

    others?

  8. Trebor, that's a great shot. Any advise for a beginner useing a Canon 40D with a 70-200 f/2.8 lens and useing only the track lights? How do I pan like this to get a decent shot with what I am useing? It does make a great difference as I see in your picture. You can feel the action. Awesome!
  9. I AM A BEGINNER AND WANT TO PURCHASE A NICE LENS FOR MY CANON 40D. I WILL BE

SHOOTING A LOT OF INDOOR/OUTDOOR PORTRAITS AS WELL AS EVENING RACEING. I WILL

NOT BE IN THE INFIELD AT THE TRACK. I AM CONSIDERING THE 70-200 F/2.8L IMS.

WILL THIS GIVE ME ENOUGH ZOOM AT THE TRACK? AND DOES ANYONE KNOW OF SOMEONE

    WHO HAS ONE FOR SALE?
