if $ and size/weight is a factor... why not a 30-20-10D or even a rebel!?

I know it's not the answer you are looking for... but sometimes, especially after knowing what it was you were wanting... "settling" for next best won't do the trick.

You can't go wrong with the 100mm Macro, in canon's line it's exquisite on so many levels... and will stay with you for years upon years to come.

You may wnat to make sure whatever you DO end up with will hold it's value, if you choose to bite the bullet and go for your original intended purshase!
