The foreground is very lively and well-captured, but it doesn't go with the distant background especially in terms of lighting. Unlike the foreground the sky looks like it was shot at low sun. The reflections of the sky are brighter than the sky itself.
To me it looks like a composite.

    Adam,

    that's a superb image!

I love the sparse colour palette from purple to orange and yet it looks very colourful. It also has a great sense of depth enhanced by the rocks in the foreground, that are just being hit by the sun.

I really enjoyed looking through your portfolio.

    Sean,

you have some interesting elements in your image namely a nice cloud landscape and the tree trunk to the left with its zig-zaggy shadow – well spotted!

It’s a bit on the bright side though for my taste and I think, the other tree trunk, that’s cut off, and the empty space between the trunks doesn’t add anything to the image. I would instead have made the left one with its shadow and the clouds the main features, perhaps even including a bit more of the water in the close foreground by framing it in portrait orientation.

I’m attaching a quick edit to illustrate my point – hope that helps.

    Roots

That's an excellent composition. I like the fact that there are two roots with the S-shaped one dominating, and yet it's all very well balanced.

The framing is spot on, too.

Good decision to make this a black&white. That brings out the sculptural qualities.
