Until they were stolen, I had EOS 50E + EF28-105USM, and think they
are both excellent (for the price). If you can still get 50E, I would
recommend it, I do not like EOS 30.

I have EOS5/A2E body. I read the manual of the camera and I find it inadequate regarding spotmetering. I want to know how big is that 3.5% spot, when I am looking through the viewfinder, and what is the shape of it. When I look through the viewfinder at the very bright light, I can (hardly) see bigger circle around the middle focus point rectangle. Is this circle in any connection with spotmetering? I read on the net thet actual spotmeter is rectangular and "slightly" (?) off the centre?! Isn't knowing the size and position of the spotmeter essencial for accurate exposure metering and why is this not covered in the manual of the camera?

I had EOS 50E + 28-105USM until it was stolen, it is great value for
the prize. Do not go lower in the EOS line (300, 3000)!
Good luck!

I was happy user of classic EOS 50E (Elan IIE) + 28-105, that's been stolen, and now I'm buying new gear.

I am thinking of new
* EOS 5 (A2E)
* EOS 50E (Elan IIE)
* EOS 30 (Elan 7)

(here in Europe you can still buy new 50E!)

I almost ruled out eos30/elan7 because of users-reported problems focusing in low light, annoying white AF assist beam (I shoot lots of concerts)... and when I hold it in my hands in the shop it feald very cheap and plastic... maybe too small and light?

I like the bright and big viewfinder of A2e/eos5, it is durable... but the model is really old... are there any problems?

I was quite happy with my IIE/50E, but I want to buy the best of three, so I would like to hear from people that used/know all three bodies, or at least two of them!

Thanx for your input!

I was a happy owner of Elan IIE/EOS 50E, then the camera was stolen. Now I am looking for Elan 7E/EOS 30, but I read about a) problems focusing in low light and b)white AF assist beam instead of IR, which is allegedly distracting for subjects. Since I am shooting lots of concert, is this realy a big problem? How annoying is that white light? This really worries me...
Which small compact digital camera, 28mm, high ISO
in Mirrorless Digital Cameras

I am using (less and less) Canon EOS 5 and I would like to go
digital. I would like relatively responsive and solid feel and at
first I thought I would go DSLR, perheps Canon 350D, but I found out
that lately I do no care to change lenses, 28-135 mm IS suited me
fine all the time, and I would prefer also to travel light... so I
decided that I should buy small&light compact digital camera.
preferably wide angle zoom, I would love 28 mm, and also acceptable
higher ISO images... It looks that there is canon s80, panasonic dmc-
fx01, olympus c-7070... no camera is perfect... should I wait for
the next s80? did I miss any camera? do you have any experience,
what do you suggest? thanks in advance!
