  1. I own a 450D, and I've not encountered any errors in it. Granted, it doesn't take perfect shots every time, but then, it doesn't have a brain, so I guess that's my fault. ;)

Seriously, it's a really good camera. If you do sports shooting, you may want to look at the 40D instead tho. It's a little faster.<div>00Q4bB-54609584.jpg.9614aebd2ea756e353a666abf6634a13.jpg</div>

  2. I do belive Matt hit on the head. Tommy Lee Jones said it best in MiB: "A person is smart, but people are stupid".

    :)

Also, I find that people who can afford vacations can usually afford the better eqquipment. So you see more bmw's, dslr's, & boats @ vacation spots than you do yugo's, cheapie P&S's & inflatable rafts.

    :)

  3. I work for a cable company as an installer/trblshooter. While DVR's will get hot (they have HD's & are basically dedicated computers), they only get 'warm' in the sense of electronics. If you lock them in a cabinet w/ no air flow & no a/c on a LA summer day, you might get upwards of 100 degrees. But most electronics can take heat for a while. The LCD might look funny until it cooled off, but I've had more issues with cold LCD's than hot ones.

Now, leaving it on the dashboard all day on a sunny day . . . that would be impressive. :)

I dropped my 450D w/ 70-300 4-5.6 IS on concrete the other. Seemed ok, except the viewfinder was out of focus, even tho AF took great shots, clear as crystal. Took me a day & half to realize I needed to readjust the Diopter by a click or 2.

    :)

  4. Slight rant here:

For all those that say 'get a lawyer & let the shark handle it' - That's the wrong first step, from a sensible human viewpoint. First step is let the person know. And perhaps let the other person know you will be contacting an attny to check what your responsibilities are.

Why do so many ppl want to run to an authority figure instead of trying to handle the situation in an adult manner first? That is not to say you shouldn't cover yourself- use polite language & do things inwriting. But sueing right off? Yeech!

    Sorry for the rant.

  5. It's a dual responsibility for teacher & student to make sure that the student learns.

But to address your concerns, have you spoken with your mentor about these issues? Perhaps s/he IS doing what he knows has worked, but you are missing vital clues? Or it may be that his style of teaching doesn't match your style of learning.

I'm a big fan of talking to the people involved, not to outsiders who don't know the situation.

  6. Yes, you will need a little room for the 50mm - it acts much like 75 on the crop sensor. You may want to check out one of the quality 30mm primes as well.

The 18-55 isn't too bad, take some test shots in manual mode to see if you can manage a slow enough shutter & wide enough apeture before it's time. Then you'll know when to use the P&S.

  7. I use my ef 70-300 4.5-5.6 IS. Mode 2 for catching my kids at a lope. T does a nice job, and lets me reach all the way across our arena, long ways (about 300-400 ft?).

It's not particularly fast, so it might not work well at night. After 4H, which will be inside at the LSU Ag colesieum, I'll know more about bad/low light performance. The Ag arena is horrible for photographing.

  8. Ok, NG still has individual units. Also, what is his MOS (his job) in the Guard? Infranty? Scouts? Artillary? Finance?

All the combat arms units are cocky & think they are the best (and all but 3rd ACR are wrong ;) ). So talking to his unit's public facing officer might help too.

Military people are often a quirky lot. So ask lots of questions about anything specialthey want.

1 example - Cavalry units have The Order of the Spur. Making sure you got a picture of all the grooms spur-buddies & him, if it applied, would be good.

Other units have thier own special groups.

  9. Which branch? And what unit of that branch? Many idividual units have thier own style/flair/eccentricities. I'd do a little googling to see what questions you should ask of the couple.

It may also make a difference if the service member is officer or enlisted.

  10. My thought is that crop sensors will fade. Not soon, probably, but eventually. I have no plans to ever buy an ef-s lens for my 450. I just do the math in my head.

But that's just a gut feeling, not based on a whole lot of fact. But consider how much eqq has been built for FF, as opposed to crop. And that crops are 'upwards compatible', but FF's are not downwards compat.

Regardless, 2 diff size sensors will become less cost effective over time.

  11. I would, just as a legal cya, place an ad in the local classifieds seeking contact info. Keep a copy of your reciept for the add & a copy of the ad.

That way, if someone does come back and scream 'copyright infringement' you can prove reasonable effort at contact.

  12. I'm not a lawyer, nor a pro/paid photographer.

    Here are my ideas:

    1) Remind the cust of the cancellation & deposit forfieture clause in current contract.

    2) Ask for the date they want, but do not volunteer any info.

    3) If you are free, move it, gratis.

    4) write a new contract & specfically address further changes in ANYTHING, & the fact that the old contract is now null.

    5) Learn from experience. :)

  13. I'm in BR, and and a complete novice aspiring to be amateur. For me, getting to NO on a regular basis is difficult right now, but I'd be happy to talk on a moe live basis - IM, or what not.

    I need more time to process & post images . . .
