  1. <p>I am looking to get a 2 stop ND filter so I can shoot wide open outdoor in bright sunlight. I wonder if I can use a polarizer (that I already have) instead to achieve the same/similar result. Is there output difference in image quality, assuming both filters are quality made?. Any comments?</p>
  2. <p>I already have a Nikkor 50/2 H.C. Auto (AI converted) and a Nikkor 50/1.8G but I am thinking of adding one more 50 to the bag. <br />Despite of large differences in max. aperture and price, can anyone compare Nikkor 50/1.2 AIs with Zeiss 50/2 Makro-Planar if shooting at F2 and smaller? I’m interested in knowing how they perform in terms of color rendition, boken and sharpness. Thanks.</p>
  3. <p>I used to get 120/220 films developed and printed at Vistek, Calgary. After a 2-year break from using film medium format, I shot one roll of Fuji color film the past weekend and bought it to Vistek for developing and printing. They told me that they no longer do prints from 120 film although they would develop the negatives.<br>

Does any body know any Calgary lab still do 120 develop/print? Does London Drug still do it or will they have to send to Vancouver lab?</p>

  4. I just picked up this tonight and tried to plug into my HP dv6565 laptop but

found out that the laptop doesn't a DVI video-out (only HDMI, S-Video and

Analog), and the monitor doesn't have a HDMI or S-Video input either.

After plugging in via Analog signal, everything seemed ok except that I

noticed some vertical screen flickering, especially when viewing the dark

color screens, e.g. Windows Media Centre manual screen. I checked the flash

rate is set at 60 Hz. This is also annoying when watching DVD using Quickplay.

    1) Anything wrong with this new monitor? Any easy fix?

    2) How can I connect it to the HP dv6565 using digital interface?

    3) Will the flickering be gone when using DVI?

    4) Does HP Pavilion m8120n (planning to buy) have a compatible DVI-out?

    5) What's difference in DVI and HDMI?

  5. Exactly, I'm confused. I have been using the 70-200/4 L (non-IS) and centre focus point on 5D for my kids' sooccer game and have not experienced any difficutly (or at leaset I am not yet aware of any). Mind you that I usually use it outdoor with reasonable sunlight. What are the real world differences of using F2.8 and F4 with center focus? Under what situation will the differences be big enough?
  6. I have the new old stock of Ricoh branded filter ring, multi-coated Skylight 1B and PL filters in original packaging and case. I bought them to be used with my GR1s but never had a chance to mount them on before I sold the camera. So they are new and unused.

I can sell them for $90 shipped. Are you interested?

  7. I currently have a Canon S410 which I'd like to upgrade to either of these

two. I'm aware of the differences between the two, e.g. size, image

stablization, noise level at high ISO, types of memory cards, size and

flexibility of LCD screen, lack of viewfinder etc.

Does anyone have experience of using BOTH cameras and tell me your thoughts on

them? Although I have not made prints larger than 5x7 with the 4MP S410, I may

do 8x10 (or slightly larger) with the new cameras because of their higher

    pixels and newer/better sensor.

  8. In short, those who shutterbugs before the era of digital camera knows that lens vignets at wide-open, nopt just wide-angles but lenses longer focal length. The effect may be alleivated to certain extent by more technically advanced design (the more expensive). You can also completely eliminate vignetting if you adapt a medium format lens to use on a 35mm body.

It's a matter of physics the the "usable" image coverage by lens designed for a particular format may not be large enough to cover the full frame. Thus a 1.6 cropped sensor is a way to solve this problem.

  9. A lot have been said and I won't add anymore. Except that I made some test shots with 50mm 1.4 on 5D. At F1.4 to F2.8, the lens also showed vignetting when I shot a cloudness bluesky without any filter. I accept this as I've been facing this kind of phenomenon since I started in film photography when I was 20 years younger. It is the fun of using learned skills and adapting tricks and treats that make photography fun, even more in the era of digital.
  10. A different but related questions. Can I use one Canon OEM BP511A battery simultaneously with a 3rd party battery when both are isntalled in the battery power grip? Will the difference in mHA affect the batteries or the camera?
  11. I use this flash and SCA 3102 M2 dedicated shoe on 1v with no

problem and the E-TLL mode works just fine. However, my shots all

came out at least 2-3 EV over-exposed when using E-TLL mode on my

    newly acquired 5D.

Does anyone have similar result? I noticed from Metz website that

the dedicated module for 5D is SCA3102 M3. Do I need to get this one

to use E-TLL function on 5D? What about E-TLL II?
