    Tree

I'm relatively new at applying black & white to some of my photos but I'm

not sure yet what makes a great B&W. Critiques and comments would be

    appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Very Nice Henk! I might be a bit impartial towards shots of agriculture, but I really love the top-down, unique perspective that you've used here. It could have been interesting to try to capture one with part of the horizon as well to give a bit more scale to the shot. Well done ~Justin

Very nice subject. The colors are a bit blown out of proportion for my taste though. Too much white, not enough detail. As an abstract landscape I think it works quite well. Take care ~Justin

    Cote du Doubs

Very nice! Colors are very cool (temperature) and calming. The horizon is off kilt a bit though. Of course, I have a high sensitivity to things that are uneven. Well done overall though. ~Justin
  2. Anthony, gorgeous subject. In my opinion the landscape is definetly second to the sky. I think if you cropped the bottom off to that black line on the horizon this photo would really pop. Good work! JMK

    Burney Falls 4

Thank you Charles for your critique. Actually, the wall itself is the origin of these falls. It's volcanic rock and the spring runoff flows through several small springs on this face. The main falls are to the right about 20 feet. ~Justin

    Vines

I agree, the tree in exactly in the middle makes it a bullseye. If I'm not mistaken this is an HDR photo? I live around thousands of acres of vines and it's extremely difficult to get the light just right and get a decent photo. HDR is a good technique. Where abouts is this Chris?
  3. Nice Capture Jan! One minor comment. I think if you cropped the top third of the image it would have a more striking feel. The dark mood of the photo would contrast nicely with the ray of light shining through the clouds and onto the hills. ~Justin
