1.
Hey everyone,

I've got a simple question. How do I activate the movie mode on my d90? I've looked in my manual and around the internet, but all I can find is an explanation of it, but not how to actually activate it. Please help! Thanks! ~Justin

 2.
For smaller prints (under 8x10") I just use my personal photo printer. For the larger and/or more specialized prints I use Bay Photo.com They have a lot of great options and they're pretty reasonably priced. Turn around times have always been good for me too. ~Justin

 3.
Thanks for the responses guys! I have held off going out searching for wildflowers until this weekend. We just got more rain in the last two days and I believe the sun is supposed to be shining for the next several so things should be popping pretty quickly here. I'm heading up to Lake Berryessa this weekend to see if anything has happened there yet.

Thanks again! ~Justin

 4.
Hey everyone,

I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off from work and really want to get out to take photos of the wildflowers in northern California. I live in Sacramento. Last year I went west of Williams and there were a fair share of wildflowers along the 20. Does anyone from northern California have any hotspots that they know of? El Nino brought the rain and I've seen that the sun has brought the wildflowers. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks!
5.
Thanks for your responses Charles and Ted. I think I've now got a pretty good idea of what to price things at. The 3x and 4x tip is exactly what I was looking for. That'll at least get me in the ballpark of what my photos are worth. I think I'll keep things towards the lower end, as in 2x or 3x my costs, for now and if I start selling a lot more prints I'll move up. Thanks again! ~Justin

 6.
Thanks for your response Matt. All of my photos are Nature and Landscapes (waterfalls, wildlife, streams, vistas, etc). Maybe I be pricing them based upon my attitude towards the image? For example, if it's a unique shot like Birds of Prey in my gallery and one that I cannot reproduce I should price it higher than a more generic image such as one of a stream?

 7.
Hey Everyone,

I'm beginning to get requests from people to purchase my photo prints, which is great, but I have no clue what to price them at. What price points does everyone suggest? I've seen a lot of photo prints advertised for $100 and up. I was thinking like $50, but maybe that's too low??? The prints won't be framed by myself unless requested by the client. Obviously a framed print would need to be priced much higher. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
8.
Amanda,

As a person who's grown up primarily in the country I can say that as long as you're not obstructing traffic then parking on the side of a country road is legal. I do it almost every day for my job. In terms of safety you should be fine as long as your vehicle is completely off the road. And whatever you do, do not park near a hill where the opposite view is obstructed. And don't park on any curves. If you've got farm equipment barreling over a hill at 25mph you're going to want to give him plenty of time to slow the tractor and more importantly whatever he's pulling, down to get safely around you.

If you're spending time photographing a farmsite; be prepared to be stopped a couple of times by neighbors or the actual owner. Don't be too nervous if you see someone stop; just tell them what you're doing and they should be fine with it. I'm not sure what part of the country you are in, but in the Midwest most country folk are extremely nice. 9 times out of 10 you won't have any issues. If you've got one, carry your business card to show them that you mean no harm. Whatever you do, if you see someone coming, don't just drive away. That could lead to issues. Let me know if you have any other questions. ~Justin

 9.
Thanks for your responses. A couple of questions. How do I turn off search indexing? Also, how do I complete a 'dual boot?' And, to TURN OFF processes, do I do an 'End Process' in the Task Manager? Or is there another way?

I would Love to get a MAC, but alas, they're beyond my budget currently.

 10.
I'm in need of some technical assistance from fellow photo editors. This holiday I received a Bamboo pad and while I'm using the painting feature in Corel Painter 4 I notice significant jerking. It seems as though my graphics card is not sufficient. Currently I have the card which came with my computer and it has a memory of 128mb which I know is extremely small. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what graphics card would be sufficient for any photo editing I might do. I also have Photoshop CS2. I've done some research on cards and was curious about the GeForce 9400 GT. Also, my operating system is XP so I'm going to need something that is compatible with that.

Any help with suggestions on possible cards would be extremely helpful. Thanks! Justin

 11.
Hey everyone, so I just purchased my first edition of Photoshop, CS2 and I have a question. My camera saves RAW files as ARW and Photoshop won't open them. I read in my book that I can use Adobe Bridge to save them as a Photoshop compatible file, but I cannot find 'how' I accomplish this. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! Justin

 12.
Hey Rob, if you're in Vacaville and are looking for some landscape photography places then you definitely need to hit up Lake Berryessa. Head up the 505 and get off at the Winters exit. Head west on road 128 and you'll run right into Lake Berryessa. There's many hiking trails that you can take and they provide great views of the lake. If you're looking for farmscape areas then also head north towards Winters. There's almond and walnut orchards gallor in that area. If you head northeast, Woodland offers fields of tomatoes with old farmsteads sprinkled in the area. There are also a couple vineyards spread around the area. Best light for these areas is early morning as the sun comes over the Sierras or also evening right before the sun goes over the Coastal Range. One more place, if you don't mind driving a bit, is the Capay Valley. Head north on the 505 and get off on the Highway 16 exit and just head west. It's an expansive valley and once you get by the large casino the Cache Creek borders the road while it winds through some gorgeous wooded hills. This is a beautiful drive which offers a lot of photo opportunities. Just a couple ideas. Take care, Justin.

 13.
I'm looking for an online professional printing service that prints high quality photos. The only problem is that my photos don't conform to the usual sizes such as 8x10 or 24x30. I'm needing a place that will print custom sizes. Does anyone know of a place that will do this? Thanks! Justin

 14.
I'm at work so not all the functions of this site are working correctly, but I believe if you go into your favorites area you'll see a button that says "Show Details." Details should present themselves under each photo including an option to remove the photo from the gallery.
15.
I wasn't sure where to post this so I'll just put it here. I'm looking for a good pen mouse or a pen & tablet, reasonably priced, that operates well. I'm needing something that allows me to, very accurately, edit my photos (Draw lines around subjects, etc). My current mouse leaves me very frustrated when the job is done. I've researched some and it seems that Wacom produces a very nice pen & tablet.
What does everyone think?

Thanks,
16.
Thank you all for your opinions. It seems that it wouldn't hurt to have a macro lense in my bag for flower photography. I've been photographing the blooms here in California over the past two months and have been slightly dissapointed with the level of sharpness in some of my photos. I'd really like the petals to 'pop' out of the image and I was curious if a macro lense would help accomplish this. It also seems like some kind of extender might also get me there. When I try to get real close to the flower my focus doesn't quite allow me to get as close as I'd like (I've mainly been using a Sony DT18-70mm 3.5-5.6). I've attached a picture of one such bloom.

00Sz2g-122401584.jpg.08f0811fb0e9dafc372da0e0f2950f3b.jpg

 17.
What does everyone think. Is it recommended that you have a Macro lense to produce good quality flower close-ups? I've searched the flower critique section and nobody seems to like putting their choice of lense when taking the picture shown.
Thanks!
18.
In relation to Nathan's response, the best book I've found on explaining the fundamentals of photography is definitely Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure." I've learned more from that book than any other resource I've found. Also, when you get going it gives plenty of extremely useful tips on metering to greens, whites, and blues.

 19.
Thanks Tommy for the excellent explanations and images! I'm a very visual learner and these help me quite a bit. It seems as though it would be better to just use a diopter and a small extension tube. When it comes to diopters, what kind of price range are we typically talking?

 20.
Hello all,
I was reading about extension tubes in Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" and am curious if anyone uses them quite often. This was the first time I had heard of extension tubes to get closer to your subject without having a stronger lens and without physically moving closer to your subject. Do they make specific types of tubes for different brands of cameras or are they all universal? Is there anything I should know about extension tubes that could affect my photos such as losing sharpness in my photos?
Any information on extension tubes would be appreciated. Thanks!
