1.
Hi Guys,

I recently got myself a Powershot SX110 IS as a back up and smaller camera for my SLR.

I've only had it a week, and the batterys have died. I put in some batterys I got from my local supermarket, but I don't think they are strong enough as the battery sign still shows, and then the Camera turns off after a few shots.

I think getting a Rechargeable battery kit is the way to go. I read that you need a good one, though.

Can anyone recommend a good kit? And also, tell me what kind of batterys I need to get from my local store for spares/emergency.

Sorry, for the basic questions, I'm new to AA battery Camera. I'm used to just charging my SLR, lol.

Thanks for your time and any help you can provide.

  2.
Hey guys, me again.
Well, I've been doing some reserch (web browsing etc) and I've narrowed a few cams down.

= Canon PowerShot G10
= Canon PowerShot G9
= Canon Powershot SX110 IS
= Canon PowerShot SX100 IS

I am really wanting to use it for landscape/wilidlife, so a wider-screen, large zoom with a fast shuter speed is what I'm after. Or is there a better cam with a smaller zoom that I could then get a zoom lens for it?

Thank you again.

  3.
[[What you need is to learn to carry your 400D with the telephoto lens, IMHO]]

There's no need to be rude about it. As I stated, I am a novice to all of this, as I see, you are not. I do realise I'm not going to get a telephoto zoom like on my 400D. I was just asking about the bigger zooms X5/X6 (or higher) on thse kinda of cams. As I stated, I am looking for a P&S kind of cam as, as I said, it's not always possible for me to carry my 400D and my telephoto.

By "Powershot" I thought people where talking about the big older black bulky ones, I asumed Canon had made new ones of the same size. I have now looked them up, and I was wrong. The new Powershot Elph size's seem fine size wise.

Considering what I have said, can anyone give me some Powershot Elph series names/numbers to look at for the kind of photograpy I am after: Wide-screen/fast shutter/big-ish zoom (X5/X6 etc).

Thanks again for your time in reading this everyone.

  4.
Thanks for the replies guys.

I really want something a little smaller than the Powershot series. My friend has one, and to me, it's not far off my 400D, lol. Any recommendations on the size front?

But, that said, would it be pointless to go for a small one for what I want to do? As I said, I like to shoot animals, so I'd need the biggest zoom I could get, and a fast shutter speed? Correct? (I'm a novice, sorry).

So, what I'm asking is, is there any cams out there with:
- Quite Small.
- Fast shutter speed
- Big-ish Zoom
- Wide-screen if possible

I'd like one that takes videos, but that's not a must.

(Sorry, I should have been a little more specific in my original post)

Thanks again.

  5.
Hey all,

I'm looking for a bit of advise.
I have a Canon 400D which is great. I use it to shoot mostly scenes and animals.

However, with three dogs to look after, on walks when I am by myself, I am sometimes unable to carry the cam and lens etc (I am able to use my 400D when friends or family are with me). So I am looking for something small when I am in this situation, also, it would be nice to have something I can keep in my bag at all times etc.

Now, I KNOW a Point and shoot cam is NOT going to compare to my 400D. But, as I said, I wanted something not to replace it, but as an extra.

I don't have a partially high budget, but I am looking for the best I can get. So, I was wondering if you guys could recommend a few.

Thanks for your time.

  6. Hi guys,

I've just recived my 17-85mm lens, and I just wanted to ask a simple question

to those that have it. I hope its okay to post this, as I didn't know where

    else I could ask.

    - Should you get a manual with this lens? As I did not.

    Thanks!

  7. Okay, so! I've FINALLY decided on:

    - 400D (18-55mm kit): I was going to get the Body only, but my local store are

doing an offer on the Kit at the same price as the body, so I'm going to sell

    the lens on eBay. :0)

    - Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens: I "um'd" and "ar'd" about this over

the 18-55mm IS lens, but I decided, although its more, I do want the Range.

I've been using the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my 350D (now giving both

Body and lens to daughter as birthday present, hence new camera etc) and its

just not long enough, I want a bit more.

I am also planning on getting the "Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens" and a good

Macro later on in the year. Perhaps in the fall.

Now, I what I need help with, I can't decide on:

    - Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

    or the

    - Canon EF 75-300 III F4-5.6 USM Lens

I like the "55" range on the 55-250mm, but I'm not sure if the "250" is long

enough? Hence the "75-300". Now if they done a "55-300" I'd be laughing! lol.

I like to shoot Wildlife/Horses/Pets, so that's why I wanted the Range.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  8. Thanks for the replys.

What I meant to make clear was (sorry if I didn't), I am using the "18-55mm" kit lens that came with the 350D. So I am very much used to that Range. And feel that its not quite long enough for what I seem to want to shoot, that's why I wanted to know about the 17-85mm. (I also use my friends 55-250mm when we walk our dogs together). I was mentioning the IS version of the "18-55mm" kit lens, as I like the wide angles. And was wondering if the "17-85mm" can do the same, but a a further range?

The "17-85mm" is quite expensive. Is there a cheaper Lens with that kind of range, which is just as good? Or am I better off with the "17-85mm". Bearing in mind I'd use it for normal/general use and wide angle shots - and also buy myself a 55-250mm as well.

  9. Hi guys.

I hope I'm not bothering people too much with the questions. I'm what you'd

call a novice, and am trying to learn all I can, as quick as I can.

My daughter is often using my 350D, and when we go out with the dogs together,

we are often fighting over it - as we both love photography, lol. She has a

compact at the moment. I am considering giving her my cam for her birthday in a

few weeks (as she's asked for a SLR), and then myself moving upto 400D - as the

450D is just too high for my budget.

I am thinking of buying the Body only. And the "Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS

USM Lens", as I hear its a very good alround/every day lens (I am also thinking

of buying a "Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens" OR the "Canon - EF 75-300 III

F4-5.6 USM Lens" as I do use a friends (the 55-250mm I mean), and like

the "feel" to it.). But, the "Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens" not

cheap. The same said friend, suggested why not go with the "Canon EF-S 18-55mm

f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens" as its a lot cheaper. As unlike the kit lens it has the IS

on it... but I dont know... it doesnt have the rage of the "17-85mm".

What I DO like about the kit lens, is the Wide-ness. I find it good for taking

scenery photography, which I do a lot of. What I wanted to know is, if I go

with the "Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens", is it a wide lens? Any

    good for scenery photography?

Or is there a better lens I could get?

As I said, I would like the "Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens" as well, but

that will push me as my budget is not big. As of right now (and probably for

the foreseeable future) I won't be able to afford anything else - apart from

the Body those two lens I mean.

Please note, this is a hobby for me, not a profession. So, I cant afford all

the big gear etc. I do like to shoot Wildlife/Pets/Scenery. That said, Can

    anyone comment?

Thank you for any help you can give.

  10. Thanks for all the help and info guys. I am new to this, lol.

Some Lens you suggested I couldn't locate. But I have located:

Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens

    Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

The "100mm f/2.8" is a bit out of my price range at the moment. (Remember, most of the time Lenses are roughly twice the price in the UK than in the USA - I cant find a USA site that is cheap and won't cost me tons for shipping to the UK). But do you think its worth me waiting for a bit and saving for the "100mm f/2.8" Lens? Or should I go with one of the others? Is there much advantage over the "100mm f/2.8" than the other two?

    Thanks!

  11. Hi,

I use a 350D and my friend uses a 400D, we are both looking for a, not too

pricey Macro lens. We'd both like to start shooting flowers, insects and other

small stuff. Any recommendations? We'd both rather buy a Lens that zooms, so we

can do other work with it too, but if best results are a "fixed" length Lens,

then that's what we'll have to both invest in.

    Thanks!

  12. Hi,

I hope I have this in the correct place.

    I have a 350D, I take a lot of Wildlife/Pets photography, I have a "2GB

    15MB/100x i-Pro: Proffessionl Ultra High-Speed" Card,

    Flash/dp/B000BRC92E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1208614480&sr=8-1) and

I was told that to get better/faster shots I should update my card. A Couple of

friends have suggested "SANDISK EXTREME III CF 2GB".

    5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2HL69O13VEQY4).

Is this correct info? By getting a faster card is this likely to improve my

work? If so, is a correct card or is there a better one to go with the 350D?

I am quite new to this all so excuse the newbie.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  13. Hi, thanks for the reply.

Like I said, I'm new pretty new to photography. And am still very much in the learning process.

If you can recommend completely different lenses which would work better for what I want to do, then I'd very much appreciate the advice. Bearing in mind that my budge isn't huge.

    Thanks

    -Alex

  14. Hi All,

    I'm pretty new to photography.

I've been looking into Cameras for a few weeks now and am thinking of getting

the "Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi".

I was thinking of getting the Body only and getting a separate lens.

I was thinking of the 55-200mm. Now the trouble is, I've seen a couple around

and I don't know much about lens to know which is best. My budget is limited to

    about ?200/$400.

Would anyone be able to tell me which lens is best for taking photos of

Wildlife/Pets/Scenery. I would like to zoom out as well as take pretty near

close ups. But for that perhaps I need a 2nd smaller lens?

Sigma 55-200mm AF F4-5.6 DC Digital Lens for Canon AF Mount

    Canon EF - Telephoto zoom lens - 55 mm - 200 mm - f/4.5-5.6 II USM - Canon EF

    Canon EF 55-200 f/4.5-5.6 2 USM

Or is there a better lens I could use?

Thanks very much for your time and any help you can provide.

    -Alex
