1. Hello. I've been enjoying the photos here for several weeks, although this is

    my first post.

My background is professional video, so I've never dealt with a still photo

tripod & head before. However recently I've wanted to mount my Nikon D40 on my

dad's old Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 tripod, which he bought in 1990 and coupled with

    a Bogen/Manfrotto 3029 head. I didn't like that head at all, so I bought a new

Manfrotto 322RC2 "joystick" head which I hoped to mount on the 3021 tripod.

Problem is I can't figure out how to completely remove the old 3029 head and

have come up empty in Internet searches for an owner's manual or user guide for

the 1990 era version of that head/tripod.

Here's an overview photo and a detail photo of the head:

I removed the screw at the center of the head (B) as well as the two screws (A)

that hold the cylinder in place for tilt rotation of the head (one of these

screws is hidden from view on the opposite side of the head). I also removed

the 3 headless screws that go up through the bottom plate.

That left me with what you see in the following photos:

As you can see, I'm able to remove most of the head, but the round plate which

appears to serve as the base of the head and that mates to the equally-sized

plate of the center column of the tripod are seemingly inseparable, even though

they're obviously two different pieces of metal and even though I've removed

every visible fastener. I've considered that the plates may actually screw

apart themselves, but I don't have wrenches big enough to begin to fit them, so

I thought I'd check with some experts first before I spend money on new tools or

    wreck something.

Any idea how to complete the removal of the head?
