  1. Rick, the lens is reversed so that the front element faces the film. It gives a circular image but this does not matter when

you are recording a circular radar image. They were used in RAF aircraft and the Kodak 35 was used as Britain did not

have a suitable 35mm camera until after WW2.

  2. The Leica 11 is the cheapest option as you will pay another 50 GBP for a 111 and when do you want slow speeds ? The Russian copies

are a good cheap alternative but they never have the smooth winding of the genuine article. It is sad that some of the fake Leicas were

made from the pre - war Feds as these are interesting in their own right. I have a 1937 Fed S which has an F/2 lens and a 1/000 th top

speed. I also have a copy of a Leica 1 with a 10xxx serial number but it never came from Wetzlar as you soon discover when you wind it

on.I think is was made from T34 tank parts. And as for buying Japanese alternatives, some are very good but if you are a badge snob

they won't be for you. You don't buy a Ford if you always wanted a BMW even if they do virtually the same thing. Finally spend some time

loading a screw thread Leica as it takes practice and is an acquired skill.
